BEMIDJI, Minn. -
Emily Brookshaw
(Sr., Webster, Wisc.) had 22 saves against St. Cloud State University
Saturday afternoon at John Glas Fieldhouse, but it wasn’t enough
for the Bemidji State women’s hockey team as the Beavers fell 1-0
to the Huskies.
BSU (1-13-3, 0-11-2 WCHA)
had one of its best defensive efforts of the season, allowing only 23
shots to the Huskies. The total was the least allowed since a Nov. 10
matchup with Niagara, and was also the second-lowest number of shots
allowed to a conference opponent all season.
Annie Bauerfeld (Fr., Woodbury, Minn.) and Erin Cody
(Fr., Roseville, Minn.) both attempted three shots, and three other
Beavers attempted two. They had many opportunities to score, which
included 10 shots during power-play chances, but they were never able
to get one past SCSU’s Kendall Newell. Bemidji State had its most
shots on goal attempted in Western Collegiate Hockey Association play
since a Nov. 3 game against Ohio State.
Newell had 19 saves in the contest for St. Cloud State (9-5-3, 6-5-2 WCHA), and improved to 7-4-2 on the season.
Megan
McCarthy received a pass from both Laura Fast and Sammy Nixon and
scored the lone goal of the game 7:59 into the second period.
BSU
went 0-for-7 on the power play, and the Huskies went 0-for-5. Bemidji
State dominated St. Cloud State on faceoffs, winning 32 out of 50. No
Huskie had a winning record on faceoffs while five Beavers won a
majority of theirs led by Tara Hiscock (Sr., Turtle River, Minn.) who won 14-of-19.
The Beavers wrap up the two-game series at 2:07 p.m. Sunday at the Glas before leaving for the winter break.
