FAYETTE, Iowa (Robertson Woods Field) - The Upper Iowa University Peacocks used late inning
rallies in both games of a doubleheader to down Bemidji State
2-1 in Game 1 and 16-3 in Game 2 from Robertson Woods Field
in Fayette, Iowa.
The Bohannan brother’s, Rich and Ryan (Goodyear, Ariz.)
each collected a pair of singles to pace the Beavers at the
plate while Casey Allar (Sartell, Minn.) pitched six innings
allowing three runs (three earned) on four hits, while striking
out three batters and walking just one in the 4-3, game one
loss.
The game remained scoreless until the top of the third inning
when the Beavers platted all three of their runs. Tony Samuelson
(Pine City, Minn.) started the inning with a walk and advanced
to second on Ryan Bohannan’s single up the middle. P.J.
McIntee (Randolph, Minn.) laid down a sacrifice bunt moving
the runners up a base. Josh Silvernagel (Bismarck, N.D.) hit
his first triple of the year, plating the runners on second
and third to give the Beavers a 2-0 lead. Rich Bohannan picked
up the third RBI of the inning when he laid down a bunt single
scoring Silvernagel from third.
The Peacocks knotted the game at three apiece in the bottom
of the sixth inning. Jamie Terres doubled to left field plating
runners from second and third to bring the Peacocks within
a one run deficit. Mitch Walser followed up with a double
of his own scoring Terres from second and tying the game up
at 3-3.
The Beavers went down with out scoring in the top of the seventh
giving the Peacocks a chance to win the game in their last
at bats. T.J. Johnson led the inning off with a single up
the middle and then stole second and advanced to third on
an error by Bemidji State catcher Anthony Stoloski (Half Moon
Bay, Calif.). Lucas Wilsing then singled up the middle to
plate the winning run and give the Peacocks a 4-3 come from
behind win.
Karl Willers (Slayton, Minn.) picked up the loss dropping
to 1-2 on the season.
Ronnie Sweeney picked up the win for the Peacocks improving
his record to 3-1. Sweeney pitched 3 2/3 innings allowing
one run on three hits with two strikeouts. Starter Kevin Epperheimer
pitched 3 1/3 innings allowing three runs on four hits while
striking out four BSU batters.
In Game 2 the Beavers jumped out to an early lead. Anthony
Stoloski (Half Moon Bay, Calif.) scored when Eric Pilgrim
(Park Rapids, Minn.) reached on an error. The Peacocks regained
the lead in the bottom of the first when they scored three
runs. The Peacocks scored three unearned runs in the bottom
of the first inning to take a 3-1 lead.
The Beavers tied the contest up in the third inning. Pilgrim
struck again when he hit a two out single to right field plating
two BSU runners to tie the game at 3-3. From the bottom of
the third inning on it was all Peacocks. The Peacocks scored
thirteen unanswered runs, highlighted by a eight run sixth
inning to take a 16-3 win to complete the sweep over the Beavers.
Mitch Walser led the Peacocks going 4-for-5 with three runs
scored and three RBI. Pilgrim paced the Beavers going 1-for-2
with all three RBI for the Beavers.
Andy Seabrooke to the hill for four innings striking out four
batters allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits. Seabrooke
improved to 3-2 with the win. Brandon Schenk and Chris Wlezien
came in for relief. Schenk pitched two innings allowing no
runs on two hits and one strikeout while Wlezien pitched one
inning allowing no runs on just one hit while striking out
one Beaver batter.
Josh Juntunen (Elk River, Minn.) took the loss for the Beavers
falling to 0-6 on the season. Juntunen pitched 4 2/3 innings
allowing eight runs (five earned) on eight hits with six strikeouts
and three walks. Tony Meech (Menahga, Minn.) and Bryan Buhr
(Frazee, Minn.) came in for relief; Meech pitched 2/3 of an
inning allowing six runs (three earned) on four hits with
two walks and Buhr pitched 2/3 of an inning allowing three
two runs on three hits with one strike out.
Bemidji State (3-24; 1-8 NSIC) will be in action on Monday,
April 9, 2007, when the Beavers will take on the Jamestown
Jimmies in its second home series of the season. Game 1 is
slated for a 1:00 p.m. start with Game 2 to immediately follow.
