BEMIDJI, Minn. -
Franny Dorr (So.,
Roseville, Minn.) scored her second goal of the season in Bemidji
State’s 5-1 loss to No. 2-ranked Minnesota Duluth Friday night at
John Glas Fieldhouse.
Bemidji State played a
solid opening period, keeping the Bulldogs away from easy chances at
the net. UMD was able to score a power-play goal with 1:45 remaining in
the first off an assist by Jocelyn Larocque, and the Beavers skated to
a 1-0 deficit heading into the first intermission.
Iya
Gavrilova netted the second Bulldog goal 9:00 into the second, but Dorr
was able to bring the Beavers within one just 18 seconds later.
Erin Cody
(Fr., Roseville, Minn.) fired a shot at the Minnesota Duluth netminder
Kim Martin, and Dorr collected the rebound and slapped it into the back
of the net. The goal was the first against the Bulldogs this season.
Gavrilova
scored less than a minute later off an assist by Sara O’Toole,
and Elin Holmlov added another marker 15:09 into the second period off
an assist by Karine Demeule, and the Beavers entered the second
intermission down 4-1.
Gavrilova added her
third goal of the game 7:52 into the third period, and Bemidji State
was able to fend off the Bulldog attack for the rest of the game. It
was the first time Bemidji State allowed a hat trick since Dec. 3,
2005.
UMD peppered BSU goaltender Emily Brookshaw
(Sr., Webster, Wisc.) with 47 shots on net, while the Beavers attempted
22. It was the most shots attempted by BSU against Minnesota Duluth
since Jan. 21, 2007.
Brookshaw played in her
100th career game, and finished with 42 saves. Martin played the first
two periods, saved 13 shots and took the win while giving up the lone
goal to Dorr. Johanna Ellison came into relief duty for the third
period and saved eight shots.
