MANKATO, Minn. - Bemidji State sophomore
Erin Cody
(So., Roseville, Minn.) had an amazing two-goal performance, but it
wasn’t enough as the women’s hockey team was defeated 4-3
by Minnesota State University Saturday evening at All Seasons Arena.
The
loss drops BSU to 1-7-2 overall and 0-6 in the WCHA. The Maverick sweep
over the Beavers moves them to 6-3-1 overall and 3-2-1-1 in the WCHA.
MSU
got on the board first at the 13:29 mark of the first period when Holly
Snyder scored a power-play goal with assists from Kathleen Rosso and
Lisa Edman.
After a scoreless rest of the first, Cody tied the game up off assists from Erin Johnson (So., Farmington, Minn.) and Erin Babineau (Fr., St. Paul, Minn.) 8:58 into the second.
Moira
O’Connor gave the Mavericks a 2-1 lead when she scored a
power-play marker at the 11:55 mark off assists from Lisa Edman and
Rosso, and Edman scored just a minute later on another power-play goal
off assists from Christina Lee and Maggie Fisher.
Cody answered at the 15:41 mark, scoring a power-play marker off assists from Babineau and Montana Vichorek (Fr., Moose Lake, Minn.), and the Beavers entered the second intermission with a 3-2 disadvantage.
Annie Bauerfeld
(So., Woodbury, Minn.) scored a short-handed goal off an assist by Cody
7:44 into the third period, and Bemidji State skated to a 3-3 tie for
the remainder of the third.
That was until 27 seconds to go, when Rosso won the game for Minnesota State when she scored off an assist from Ashley Young.
Bemidji
State was 1-for-6 on the power play, and the Mavericks were 3-for-10
with the man advantage. MSU outshot the Beavers 38-26.
The loss for BSU was the third-straight one-goal loss, losing by scores of 2-1, 3-2 and 4-3.
Cody
recorded her second-straight two-goal game, and the second two-goal
game of her career. The three points were a career high, and she now
leads the team in scoring with 10 points, matching her point total from
her freshman campaign.
Babineau’s two
assists were a personal best for a single season, and Bauerfeld scored
her first goal of the season and the sixth of her career.
BSU
will take a weekend off before hosting the No. 2-ranked University of
Minnesota Golden Gophers at John Glas Fieldhouse Nov. 14-15. Game times
