ST. CLOUD, Minn. - Sixty more minutes and zero goals for Bemidji State.
The
BSU women’s hockey team was shut out for the third straight game
as the team was defeated 2-0 by St. Cloud State Friday afternoon at
National Hockey Center.
The Beavers fall to
1-10-2 overall and 0-9 in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association,
while the Huskies improve to 8-5-2 overall and 5-5-1-1 in the WCHA.
St.
Cloud State entered the penalty box just 49 seconds into the contest,
giving Bemidji State the early man-advantage. Unfortunately for the
road squad, that advantage quickly evaporated when Holly Roberts scored
an unassisted short-handed marker 2:40 into the first. That goal would
prove to be the game-winner.
Roberts scored
again in the first period, this time a power-play goal with 2:10
remaining off assists from Danielle Hirsch and Caitlin Hogan, and that
would be all in terms of the puck entering the back of the net during
this game.
Bemidji State has now been held
scoreless seven times this season, which is the most times being
shutout through the first 13 games of a season in school history, and
the six shutouts in conference play are the most through nine
conference games in school history.
Bemidji
State was outshot 33-20, and was also held scoreless on the power-play,
going 0-for-8. SCSU was 1-for-8 with the man-advantage, and both teams
committed nine penalties.
Zuzana Tomcikova
(Fr., Bratislava, Slovakia) gave up the two early goals but then shut
down the Huskies for the final two periods, finishing with 31 saves
during the contest and falling to 1-7-1. Both her save percentage and
goals against average improved for the season, moving to .928 and 2.55,
respectively.
Erin Cody (So., Roseville, Minn.), Erin Babineau (Fr., St. Paul, Minn.), Brooke Collins (Sr., Pilot Mound, Manitoba) and Montana Vichorek (Fr., Moose Lake, Minn.) combined for 14 shots and were the only players with multiple shot attempts.
Bemidji
State has now scored six goals through nine conference games, which is
the second-least amount of goals scored in school history to start a
season in that span. The least amount came in the 2003-04 season when
BSU scored four markers in its first nine conference games.
The Beavers wrap up the series with the Huskies 2:07 p.m. Saturday at National Hockey Center.
