MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. (H.H.H Metrodome) -- The Bemidji State University Beavers pitching staff stifled the Minnesota, Crookston Golden Eagles offense in a double-header at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome on Friday evening allowing just three runs on seven hits in two games. The Beavers upended the Golden Eagles 4-2 in Game 1 and then completed the double-header sweep with a 9-1 win in the night cap.

In Game 1 the Beavers scored one run in four different innings to upended the Golden Eagles. BSU got on score board first as Paul Newman (Jr., Durhamville, N.Y.) picked up a two out RBI single to left field to put the Beavers up 1-0.

Minnesota, Crookston came back in the top of the second to score its only two runs of the game. Jordan Triestram hit a two RBI double to right center field that gave the Golden Eagles a 2-1 lead. UMC looked as if they were going to add another run before the inning was over when Jake Poehler singled and Triestram was trying to score from second. BSU left fielder Justin Huether (Jr., Brainerd, Minn.) came up with the ball and gunned down Triestram at home plate to keep the score at 2-1.

BSU tied the game in the bottom of the second when J.J. Swalbowski (Jr., Grand Rapids, Minn.) hit a RBI single to right field for his fourth RBI of the season.

The game remained tied until the bottom of the fifth when Ryan Bohannan (Jr., Goodyear, Ariz.) broke up the tie with a double to left field scoring Newman from second. BSU added one more run in the bottom of the sixth inning to push its lead to two, 4-2 heading into the last at bat for the Golden Eagles. Josh Juntunen (Jr., Elk River, Minn.) picked up the RBI in the inning for the Beavers.

The two run lead was more than enough for BSU pitcher Juntunen as he recorded three of his 10 strikeouts in the final inning to earn his second win of the season and his first complete game of the season. Juntunen allowed two runs (two earned) off four hits with 10 strikeouts.

Shawn Motl took the loss for the Golden Eagles as he pitched five innings allowing three runs (three unearned) off 10 hits with one strikeout. Lincoln Messner made the lone relief appearance for UMC pitching one inning giving up one run (none earned) off one hit with one walk and one strikeout.

Bemidji State was led offensively by Newman and Ryan Johnson (Fr., Bemidji, Minn.) who each went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Game 2 was a pitchers dual until the bottom of the fourth inning. With the game tied at 1-1 the BSU offense erupted for five runs in the bottom of the fourth and then added one run in the fifth and two runs in the sixth to earn a 9-1 win and complete the double-header sweep of UMC.

Jordan Triestram knocked in the Golden Eagles first run of the game as he grounded out to the shortstop allowing Tyler Reiner to score from third. The Beavers tied the game in the bottom of the second as Anthony Stoloski (Sr., Half Moon Bay, Calif.) hit is fourth home run of the season to tie the game at 1-1.

The game stayed tied until the fourth inning when the Beavers platted five runs. Stoloski started the rally with a one out double to right center field and then scored from third on a error by UMC second baseman. Newman eventually came around to score on a wild pitch and then the freshman duo of Nick Jelacie (Brainerd, Minn.) and Colton Smith (Waddell, Ariz.) hit back-to-back RBI single’s for the Beavers third and fourth runs of the inning. Huether garnered a two out RBI single to push the Beavers lead to 6-1 before the inning was over.

BSU added one run in the fifth and platted two more runs in the sixth off of a two RBI bomb to right field by Stoloski, his second home run of the game to give the Beavers a 9-1 lead heading into the seventh. BSU continued to keep the UMC offense in check and held on for the 9-1 victory.

Ryan Bohannan (Jr., Goodyear, Ariz.) allowed one run (one earned) on one hit with five strikeouts and two walks in 4.2 innings of work seeing his record improve to 1-0 on the season, his first career victory. Randy Amos (Jr., Wilmington, N.C.) pitched 2.1 innings of relief allowing just two hits and picked up four strikeouts with two walks.

Paul Krebs took the loss for the Golden Eagles falling to 1-2 on the season allowing six runs (six earned) on eight hits with five strikeouts and one walk. Max Saarinen pitched two innings of relief allowing three runs (two earned) on three hits with one strikeout and one walk.

Stoloski led the Beavers at the plate as she went 3-for-3 with two home runs, one double, three RBIs and three runs scored.

With the double-header sweep the Beavers win the season series with the Golden Eagles and are 29-5 all-time versus UMC.

Bemidji State (5-9; 3-1 NSIC) will be back in action on March 27 as the Beavers will be back at the Metrodome in Minneapolis, Minn. to take on the St. Cloud State Huskies. BSU dropped a 5-2 decision to St. Cloud State on March 9 in Arizona. The first pitch of the double-header is slated for 5:00 p.m.
