BEMIDJI, Minn. - A day after losing by just one goal to the No. 3-ranked University of Minnesota Duluth, the Bemidji State University women’s hockey team had a rough going Saturday afternoon against the Bulldogs, falling 9-0 at John Glas Fieldhouse.

The Beavers (6-20-4, 3-19-2-1 WCHA) allowed three first-period goals and five in the second and struggled to find any quality scoring opportunities. UMD (19-7-4, 14-6-4-1 WCHA) outshot BSU 44-24, and took advantage of the power play, going 4-for-7 to an 0-for-4 performance by the home team.

Sara O’Toole, Libby Guzzo and Emmanuelle Blais all scored in the first period with assists going to Jaime Rasmussen, Elin Holmlov, Erin Olson, Tawni Mattila and Saara Tuominen.

Mattila scored twice to open the second period, followed by three power-play goals by Tuominen, Laura Fridfinnson and Blais. O’Toole, Jocelyne Larocque (2), Holmlov, Fridfinnson, Heidi Pelttari (3) and Tuominen (2) all had assists in the second period.

Fridfinnson added another power-play goal in the third to round out the scoring with assists going to Tuominen and Pelttari.

BSU goaltender Zuzana Tomcikova (Fr., Bratislava, Slovakia) fell to 5-17-4 after allowing four goals and saving 16 in 22:25 of work. She was relieved by Alana McElhinney (Fr., Calgary, Alberta), who saw her first action since recording her first-collegiate victory Jan. 3 at Robert Morris. McElhinney allowed five goals and recorded 19 saves.

Johanna Ellison picked up the win after saving 13 in 39:50. Lana Steck finished out the final period and saved 11 shots.

Annie Bauerfeld (So., LW, Woodbury, Minn.) and Montana Vichorek (Fr., D, Moose Lake, Minn.) led the Beavers with five shots apiece, and captain Brooke Collins (Sr., D, Pilot Mound, Manitoba) had seven of BSU’s 24 blocks. UMD blocked just six shots.

Bemidji State will be looking to get back on the right track next weekend when the team plays host to WCHA foe St. Cloud State University. The Beavers will entertain the Huskies in the final home series of the season, and game times are set for 7:07 p.m. and 2:07 p.m., respectively.
