BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Softball Field) - The Bemidji
State University softball team was defeated in both games of a
doubleheader against the University of Mary on Senior Day Thursday
afternoon.
The Beavers (8-26, 3-19 NSIC) fell
in the opener 9-3 and the Marauders (12-31, 6-12 NSIC) took the sweep
4-3 with an unearned run in the top of the seventh of the second game.
BSU
fell behind 3-1 after the first inning of Game One, but tied it up with
two runs in the home half of the third. A home run by the Marauders
started a rally that saw them plate six runs in the fifth and sixth
innings, giving them the 9-3 win. U-Mary outhit the Beavers 18-8 in the
contest.
Three Beavers had two hits, with Karissa Hendrickson (So., 3B/2B, Big Lake, Minn.) scoring twice and Amy Klaers
(Sr., 3B/C, Elk River, Minn.) recording two runs batted in. Maegan Lunn
and Dre Brunskill both went 4-for-4 for the Marauders, and Brunskill
led the way with four RBI. Danelle Lunn scored three times.
Alison Willard
(Sr., P, Hutchinson, Minn.) started for Bemidji State in the circle,
and she lasted 5.1 innings. She allowed nine runs on 15 hits to fall to
3-10 on the season. Jamie Lund (So., P/OF,
Grantsburn, Wisc.) relieved the senior and finished the last 1.2
innings. She gave up three hits but didn’t concede a run.
Brooke Hageness earned the win after pitching a complete game, giving up eight hits and three runs.
U-Mary
scored three times in the top of the fourth to take a 3-0 lead in the
second game of the doubleheader. Bemidji State responded with a run in
the home half of the frame, and the Beavers tied it up with two in the
bottom of the sixth. Unfortunately for the home squad, an unearned run
in the top of the seventh would prove fatal in the 4-3 loss.
BSU was outhit 10-4, and the four hits from the green and white came from four different batters. Courtney Loegering
(Fr., OF, Spring Lake Park, Minn.) hit a triple in the bottom of the
sixth and recorded two RBI to lead BSU. Danelle Lunn and Brunskill both
went 2-for-4 to pace the Marauders.
Courtney Anderson
(Fr., P, Virginia, Minn.) lasted 5.0 innings and allowed three runs
(one earned) on eight hits. She left with an injury and was replaced by
Lund, who fell to 1-4 on the year after allowing the game-winning run
in the seventh. She only gave up two hits in 2.0 innings.
Brenda
Langston pitched a complete game for the Maruaders, and gave up three
runs on four hits. She struck out nine and walked just three.
Willard, Klaers, Kasey Callison (Sr., 1B, Eagle River, Alaska), Mara Johnson (Sr., 2B, Bemidji, Minn.) and Bridget Smith
(Sr., SS, International Falls, Minn.) all played their final home games
for the Beavers, and they were honored in-between games.
Bemidji
State will head to Duluth, Minn., for a weekend series April 25-26
against the University of Minnesota Duluth. The first doubleheader will
begin at 12:00 p.m.
