BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University baseball team
was victorious 4-3 in game one of a Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference
doubleheader against University of Mary Tuesday at the BSU Baseball Field, but
fell 6-0 in game two of the twinbill split. BSU has been shut-out in a game twice
this season.
The Beavers (16-21, 10-13 NSIC) tallied two runs in the
bottom of the first and two more in the fifth to own a 4-0 lead after four
innings in game one. Early walks from U-Mary (9-23, 5-17 NSIC) starter Matt
Medeiros handed BSU the runs in the first, while a couple of base hits and an
error helped guide the Beavers around the bases in the fifth.
Sophomore right-hander Logan Kalis (Little Falls, Minn.)
started the game on the bump for the Beavers, but after allowing two lead-off
walks in the sixth and then a throwing error by the catcher resulted in two
runs scoring, he was pulled from the game. He fanned eight batters and allowed
just four hits before exiting.
Senior Bryan Jamieson (RHP, Maplewood, Minn.) relieved Kalis
and got the three outs needed to head the bottom half of the frame. The scored
remained 4-3 heading into the top of the seventh and the ball was handed to
Jamieson. He didn’t mess around in the inning, as the Marauders went 1-2-3 and
the he earned his second save of the season, picking-up three Ks in two innings
pitched.
Senior Nick Jelacie (OF, Brainerd, Minn.) was the only
Beaver with two hits, going 2-for-3 and two runs scored. Freshman Eric Kallevig
(OF, Lino Lakes, Minn.) went 1-for-3 with two RBI, his first multi-RBI game in
the green and white.
BSU could only muster four hits in game two, two of them
coming off the bat of senior Colton Smith (OF, Waddell, Ariz.). Senior Ryan
Gebur (RHP, New Prague, Minn.) suffered his fifth loss of the season, falling
to 1-5. He went 4.2 innings, allowing four runs on six hits.
The Beavers now travel to No. 19 Winona State University
April 30-May 1 for a four-game NSIC series. The April 30 doubleheader is slated
for a 12 p.m. start.
