BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Soccer Complex) – The Winona State University soccer team netted two goals and would not look back holding Bemidji State University scoreless and handing the Beavers their third Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) loss of the season, defeating BSU 2-0 Sunday at the BSU Soccer Complex. The Beavers are now 9-4-1 overall and 7-3-1 in NSIC play.
WSU got on the board in the 42 minute when Caitlin Lilly broke away from the Bemidji State back line and knocked one past sophomore goaltender Sonja Barr (So., Duluth, Minn.).
The Warriors would take a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Winona State would make it 2-0 just six minutes into the second half when Hadley Bales’ shot from 25 yards out sailed over the finger tips of Barr and the Warriors would hold on to win 2-0.
BSU struggled offensively and was outshot 26-7 in the game and only landed two shots on goal.
Barr matched her career-high with 10 saves. She is now 7-2-1 on the season.
The loss Sunday was the second loss of the weekend for the Beavers and the first weekend BSU has been shut out in both games this season.
Bemidji State returns to action next weekend as it hits the road for two NSIC battles. The Beavers travel to Minot N.D. to meet league newcomer Minot State University Saturday at 11 a.m., and Bismarck N.D. with a match at University of Mary set for 2 p.m. Sunday.
