Sioux Falls bats power doubleheader sweep of Bemidji State

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (Sherman Park) – The University of Sioux Falls used a pair of home runs from Kellen Dewey to ignite a doubleheader sweep against the Bemidji State University softball team Saturday afternoon at Sherman Park in Sioux Falls, S.D. The Cougars picked up an 8-0 win in game one and an 11-0, five-inning victory in game two.

In game one, USF’s Amanda Walters pitched a one-hitter. Senior Brittany Lenander (OF, Lino Lakes, Minn.) notched BSU’s lone hit and was the Beavers’ only base-runner in the game. Walters posted 11 strikeouts.

BSU starter Allison Roberts (P, Jr., Crystal, Minn.) surrendered eight earned runs on 14 hits in six innings of work. Roberts held the Cougars off the scoreboard for three innings, but USF scored two in the fourth, five in the fifth and one in the sixth to saddle Roberts with the loss. Roberts’ record moves to 3-5.

In game two, USF scored four in the top of the first, six in the third and one more in the fifth to gain the sweep over the Beavers by a score of 11-0.

Bemidji State posted six hits in game two, all of which were singles. Unfortunately, it could not come up with a key hit to drive any of them in as the Beavers were 0-for-2 with runners in scoring position.

Danielle Jecmen (P, Fr., Bloomingdale, Ill.) took the loss in the circle for the Beavers. Jecmen lasted just 2.1 innings and allowed 10 runs (eight earned) on 11 hits. Jecmen’s record sits at 5-9 following the loss.

Bemidji State will return to action Tuesday when it will travel to St. Cloud, Minn. for another conference doubleheader. First pitch versus St Cloud State University is scheduled for 2 p.m.
