BEMIDJI, Minn. (Sanford Center) – Emily Bergland posted two goals and two assists and the Bemidji State University women's hockey team netted a trio of second-period power-play goals to gain a 4-1 victory over Ohio State University. The victory allowed BSU to salvage a split in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.

After a scoreless first period, BSU tipped the game in its favor with strong special teams play during the final two periods. 

The Beavers needed just 34 seconds of the second period to get on the board. With OSU's Erin Langermeier in the penalty box for the first 1:45 of the frame, BSU took advantage. Emma Terres found Madison Hutchinson on the left post for a power-play goal. Bergland was also credited with an assist on the play--her first point of the career night. Terres would double BSU's lead at the 11:59 mark, netting her first goal of 2016-17 on the power play with help from Alexis Joyce and Bergland. Bergland would get a power-play goal of her own at the 15:48 mark collecting a rebound off a Joyce shot to put BSU ahead 3-0 heading into the second intermission.

The Beavers held a 27-11 edge in shots on goal through 20 minutes, including 10 shots on the three second-period power-play opportunities alone.

OSU got a goal from Ariana DePinto to break up the shutout at the 7:27 mark of the third period, but that was as much as BSU goaltender, Brittni Mowat would allow. Despite the Buckeyes pulling their goalie with 3:40 to play and skating six on four for two minutes late, Mowat finished the game turning aside 14 of 15 shots faced to improve to 3-2-0 on the year.

Bergland added her fourth point of the game on an even-strength goal just moments later to settle the score a 4-1.

The Beavers, now 4-2-0 overall and 2-2-0 in WCHA play, travel east to Duluth, Minn. to battle the University of Minnesota Duluth next weekend. Opening faceoff is set for 7:07 p.m. Friday with a 4:07 p.m. matinee set for Saturday.
