Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University women's hockey team fell to No. 1 University of Wisconsin, 6-1 Friday afternoon in game one of their Western Collegiate Hockey Association series.
Sophomore Emily Bergland tallied the lone goal for the Beavers (9-15-3, 5-15-3 WCHA) in the second period and extended her goal scoring streak to five games, tied for the longest of the 2016-17 season in the WCHA.
Wisconsin started the scoring early in the game when Emily Clark tallied her first of the night just 44 seconds into the first period. Clark extend the Badgers’ lead to 2-0 eight minutes later with her second goal and freshman Abby Roque made it 3-0 at 15:32. The Beavers would respond late in the period when Bergland took a drop pass from junior Summer Thibodeau and fired a shot past Badger goaltender Ann-Renne Debiens.
The Beavers would be unable to score again in the game and Wisconsin went on to score three-unanswered goals from Roque, Sydney McKibbon and Sam Cogan in the remaining 40 minutes. The Beavers totaled 28 shots during the game surpassing their marks of 14 and 22 from when the two teams met earlier this season in Madison, Wisc. The Badgers outshot the Beavers 52-28 however, while senior Brittni Mowat made 46 saves, her second highest total this season.
Wisconsin went 1-for-2 while on the power play while their penalty-kill unit held the Beavers 0-for-2 during the game.
Bemidji State and No. 1 Wisconsin will be in action again tomorrow for another 3:07 p.m. puck drop.
