Beavers fall twice to Huskies at Husky Dome

ST. CLOUD, Minn. – The Bemidji State University softball team fell to St. Cloud State University twice Thursday night to open play at the Husky Dome. The Beavers (3-3, 0-0 NSIC) fell to the Huskies (5-1, 0-0 NSIC) in game one 6-2 and in game two 9-1 after five innings.

Bemidji State opened the scoring in game one when Brooke Phillips hit an RBI single in the top of the third but SCSU answered in the bottom half of the inning with two runs to take the lead. St. Cloud State never lost that lead and added runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth to take a 6-1 lead before Elaina Christiansen hit an RBI single in the seventh to bring the final score to 6-2.

Sophomore Stephi Dullum pitched five innings in the circle for the Beavers and allowed three earned runs off of seven hits and earned three strikeouts as she falls to 2-2 on the season.

Phillips finished with two hits in the game to lead the team while four other Beavers recorded a hit.

The Beavers had no answer to the Huskies in game two after SCSU fired off for 12 hits in the game. Bemidji State scored its lone run of the game in the first inning when Kelsey Mcallister hit an RBI single. The lead didn’t last long when St. Cloud State scored twice in the bottom half of the inning.

The Huskies eventually extended its lead to eight runs in the fourth and held the 9-1 lead after the fifth inning to enforce the run rule.

Rochelle Koshalek pitched 2.2 innings to earn her first loss of the season after giving up six earned runs off of nine hits while Megan Pehrson came in to pitch 1.1 innings and allowed three runs off of three hits.

Bemidji State continues play at the Husky Dome tomorrow evening and will face Viterbo University for a non-conference doubleheader at 4 and 6 p.m.
