Box Score 2 FOREST CITY, Iowa – The Bemidji State University softball team fell in both games of its doubleheader against No. 17 Winona State University Monday afternoon in Forest City, Iowa. The Beavers (22-20, 5-13 NSIC) fell to the Warriors (33-5, 18-0 NSIC) by scores of 10-4 and 9-0 in five innings in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Winona State 10, Bemidji State 4
Winona State used an early lead to down the Beavers in first game of the day, 10-4. The Warriors scored two runs in the first inning, three in the second and five in the third inning to jump to a 10-0 lead before the Beavers could score their own run.
Bemidji State scored two runs in the fourth off of RBI singles from Lexi Derrick and Rochelle Koshalek and added runs in the fifth and seventh innings off of RBI’s from Makayla Pagel to make the final score 10-4 against the 17th ranked Warriors.
Pagel led the Beavers at the plate by going 2-for-3 with a double and two RBI while Derrick followed with two hits in three at bats, one double and one RBI. Senior Brooke Phillips hit her 17th double of the season in the game setting a new BSU single season record.
Freshman Kaidron McClafferty started the game and pitched three innings and gave up 10 runs, six earned, off of 13 hits to earn the loss and fall to 4-2 on the season. Sophomore Stephi Dullum came in to pitch 4.0 innings in relief and didn’t allow a hit or run and earned one strikeout.
Winona State 9, Bemidji State 0 (F/5)
Bemidji State totaled just three hits and were held off the scoreboard by Winona State’s Liz Pautz and the Warriors’ defense. Winona State was held scoreless after the first inning but a seven-run second inning for the Warriors highlighted by a grand slam put the Beavers down 7-0 early.
Winona State added runs in the third and fifth inning while Bemidji State couldn’t muster a runner past second base as the Beavers fell 9-0 after five innings.
Jessica Burlingame, Brooke Phillips and Kelsey McAllister recorded the lone hits for the Beavers and Phillips and McAllister each belted doubles in the game.
Rochelle Koshalek earned the loss in the circle after pitching 1.2 innings and gave up seven runs off of seven hits while Stephi Dullum came in to pitch 3.1 innings in relief and gave up just two runs off of eight hits.
The Beavers continue play on the road and travel to University of Minnesota Duluth to face the Bulldogs for a doubleheader scheduled at noon and 2 p.m.
