BEMIDJI, Minn. -- Bemidji State University Head Soccer Coach Jim Stone has announced the commitment of seven players for the Beavers' 2022 season and beyond.  Katrina Barthelt (Bartlett, Ill.); Mykenzie Harer (Cottage Grove, Minn.); Alexia Johnson (Cottage Grove, Minn.); Brie Klingbeil (Fort Atkinson, Wis.); Tirzah Lange (Shakopee, Minn.); Briana Stocke (Andover, Minn.); and Sylve Waters (Littleton, Colo.) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to play soccer for BSU.

The 2022 signing class is made up of two forwards, two midfielders, and three defenders.

All signees are contingent upon admission to BSU and compliance with NCAA rules, including certification by the NCAA Eligibility Center.

“A big of this part of this class has been Coach Korman's hard work and willingness to get on the road and phone,” said Bemidji State Head Coach Jim Stone. “I'm thankful for his contributions.  I'm really confident that this is a class that continues to make us nationally relevant and competitive. It addresses our positional needs very well and puts us in a position for continued successes.” Stone added, “I feel very blessed to have these kids and families joining our program!.”

  • Katrina Barthelt (Forward, 5-8; Bartlett, Ill. / South Elgin High School / Chicago Rush)

Barthelt comes to Bemidji State after a successful prep career at South Elgin High School and as a part of the Chicago Rush… As a four-time letter winner for the Storm, she was a three-time Chicagoland Soccer All-State Team member… Two-time All-Upstate Eight selection, earned her team's MVP award in 2019 and 2021, was named to the 2019 Fox Valley All-Area Team, the all-section team, and was a 2021 pick for the All-State Award… Barthelt scored 33 goals to lead the Storm to a 2019 Upstate Eight Conference and regional championships… As a member of the Chicago Rush, she was a four-time captain… She helped lead her club team to a 2018 Presidents Cup National Championship, a 2021 Presidents Cup Regional title and a 2020 Rush National Presidents Day Tournament Championship… In addition, her club squad was the Rush National Weston Cup Champion in 2021.

Stone's comments on Barthelt: “When Mike first passed her video on to me, I remember thinking, 'well she's a Division I player let's not put too much time into this.' But as we developed a relationship with her and were able to get her to campus she just seemed like such a great fit and I think she sensed that too. She is as nice as she is talented and that is saying a lot. She is a prototypical goal scorer. She is fast and finishes really well. She is probably better without the ball than with it. When she has it she's efficient, can make a good cut in, and open up a lane to get a shot off. We are really excited about her and have really high hopes for her.”

Personal: Katrina Barthelt is the daughter of Katherine and David Barthelt… She plans to major in exercise science at BSU… She is a regular on the South Elgin High School honor roll, a member of the National Honor Society, and is a three-time academic all-conference honoree.

  • Mykenzie Harer (Midfield, 5-3; Cottage Grove, Minn. / Park High School / Minnesota Thunder Academy)

Fingal comes to BSU from Park High School where she earned three letters as a member of the Wolfpack girl's soccer team and one for girls hockey… Led Park in goal scoring as a junior and senior and earned the team's MVP award… Secured All-Suburban East and all-conference honorable mention honors as a prep. A member of Minnesota Thunder Academy, Harer was also a member of the Minnesota 2004 Olympic Development Program team.

Stone's comments on Harer: “Kenzie is an incredibly hard worker. Hard work is one of the foundational character traits of our program and she fits it to a T. From the first minute in a practice to the last minute, she is going to go, go, go. She has a great personality, is positive, and always smiling. I think she could potentially come in and play a forward role for us and chip in on some goal scoring, but could also move around a little bit and play an outside back position. She is pretty athletic so we feel like we have a versatile player with a great work rate. We are excited that she's going to Bemidji State.”

Personal:
Mykenzie Harer is the daughter of Cheryl and Jason Harer… She plans to major in psychology with a minor in biology… She was an academic letterwinner at Park High School.

  • Alexia Johnson (Defender, 5-6; Cottage Grove, Minn. / East Ridge High School / Salvo SC)

A three-year member of the East Ridge High School soccer team… Was an All-Suburban selection in 2020... Recorded seven assists from the Raptors' backline as a senior… Also active in the club circuit, She was a member of Salvo SC… Johnson was selected as the conference player to watch in 2019 and was a member of a club team that was a U.S. Club National Champion in 2018.

Stone's comments on Johnson: “Lexi is a camp find for us. She came to our camp and we just fell in love with her. She is fast. She is strong. She is physical. She is everything you look for in a center back. She can play a long ball, she can head the ball, and she can get into a tackle. She also could play on the flank for us we if wanted her at an outside back position. We really have high hopes of her becoming a high-level center back for us and carrying on that tradition of great defenders in this program.”

Personal: Alexia Johnson is the daughter of Wayne and Mary Beth Johnson… She plans to study nursing at BSU.

  • Brie Klingbeil (Defender, 5-4; Fort Atkinson, Wis. / Fort Atkinson High School / SC Wave)

A varsity letter winner for the Fort Atkinson High School girl's soccer team… Was also an accomplished member of the SC Wave club team… Helped her club win six consecutive Wisconsin Cup titles… Was a member of a USYS national championship in 2019… Led SC Wave to a USUS National League Division title in 2020… Her club was also a Girls Academy quarterfinalist in 2021.

Stone's comments on Klingbeil: “Brie is a player who we first saw on video while we were in that COVID holding point of watching a lot of video, and I just loved her video. I thought she defended the way we want to defend. She is really clean with her pressure and can pressure the ball without fouling. She is quick and arrives at the right time. She is a really smart defender and is smart on the ball as well. She has the ability to start the attack in a simple way by getting balls into the feel, which I like. The more we have seen of her, the more we like her. She plays at an extremely high club level. Her team has won six straight state cups for Wisconsin, so we are getting a high-level player with high-level experiences and a great personality. We could not be happier to have Brie.”

Personal: Brie Klingbeil is the daughter of Sheila Schroedl and Dennis Klingbeil… She plans to study business administration with a minor in marketing… She is an academic letter award winner and a regular on the Fort Atkinson High School Honor Roll.

  • Tirzah Lange (Defender/Midfield, 5-8; Shakopee, Minn. / Homeschool / Salvo SC)

Lange comes to Bemidji State after a prep career for Shakopee High School and club career with Salvo SC 03 Navy… A three-time varsity letter winner at Shakopee, she made the Sabers' girl's soccer varsity team as a freshman… The 2020 recipient of the Sabers' Ms. Defense Award, she was also selected to the All-South Suburban team to conclude the 2020 season… Was named team captain of her 2019 and 2020 Salvo SC U.S. Soccer Development Academy team… Prior to her Salvo SC career, Lange led Dakota Rev to a 2017 U.S. Club Soccer National Cup second-place finish… Was a member of a Mankato United team that captured a MYSA State championship in 2015.

Stone's comments on Lange: “Tirzah is a really high-end player who is very athletic. The character piece is a great fit for us. I think we saw her first playing GA for Salvo. She has a Division I athletic body. One of the things we really like about her is that she can play multiple positions. She could play as a center back, a holding mid, or she could even play as a wide back if we needed her to. But she just really struck a chord with who she is as a person and thought she would be a great fit for us and think she felt the same way. We are fortunate to be signing her.”

Personal: Tirzah Lange is the daughter of Kela and Ross Lange… She plans to pursue a degree in exercise science with a minor in psychology at BSU… Her mother ran cross country at Central College and her father was a member of the BSU football team in 1996-1998.

  • Briana Stocke (Midfield, 5-6; Andover, Minn. / Andover High School / TC Fire)

A three-year soccer letterwinner for the Andover Huskies, Stocke helped lead her team to section runner-up finishes in 2019 and again in 2021… Was a four-year member of the 15 fit team... Also an accomplished club athlete playing for TC Fire, she was a member of a team that qualified for the 2017 state tournament, won the 2021 State Cup and the 2021 USA Cup.

Stone's comments on Stocke: “I think she is a player with a lot of upside. I don't think she has peaked yet physically, technically, or tactically. I think she has the potential to get to a higher level. She is quick, smart on the ball, and is a bit of a grinder. She is willing to get into a physical game. I think with her it is about figuring out what is the best position for her, whether it is the 6, or the 8, or the 10, and learning who she is as a player more. Again we think she has a lot of upside, she is a great kid, and we are excited to be bringing her into our program.”

Personal: Bri Stocke is the daughter of Gina and Dan Stocke… Her sister Maria is a freshman midfielder for the Beavers… She plans to major in physical therapy… She is a regular on the Andover Honor Roll and earned a Spotlight on Scholarship.

  • Sylve Waters (Forward, 5-9; Littleton, Colo. / Valor Christian High School / Real Colorado)

A four-year letterwinner in soccer, Waters comes to Bemidji State from Littleton, Colo. Where she attended Valor Christian High School… Made the Valor Christian HIgh School varsity girls' soccer team a freshman... Helped lead her team to the state semifinals.

Stone's comments on Waters: “Sylvie Waters is a Division I athlete. She is fast, long, strong, and competitive. I was able to see her at the UND camp and she grew on me throughout the camp. The more I watched her, the and more I was convinced that she could really help us out here. She has a really bubbly personality and is going to make people laugh on the team. I think she has a great ceiling. She is playing for a really high-level club right now but she hasn't for a lot of her club experience so I think she is only going to get better. We are excited to have her come in and add to our forward position as someone else who can run at defenders and score goals.”

Personal: Sylvie Waters is the daughter of Janna and Billy Waters… She plans to major in business at Bemidji State.
