Box Score MADISON, Wis. – After fifth-year senior Paige Beebe scored the first goal of the game just 2:37 after puck drop, No. 1 University of Wisconsin went on to score eight unanswered goals to earn an 8-1 victory over the Bemidji State University women's hockey team Sunday afternoon. Wisconsin wins the Western Collegiate Hockey Association series with the victory and earn five of a possible six points in the league standings over the weekend.
Bemidji State drops to 2-6-2 (1-6-1 WHCA) with the loss while the No. 1 Badgers remain unbeaten with a 13-0-1 (9-0-1 WCHA) record.
Following Beebe's team-leading fourth goal of the season, Wisconsin scored two goals in the first period and six goals in the second period.
Daryl Watts led the Badgers with a hat trick and added an assist while Caitlin Schneider scored two goals and an assist, Sarah Wozniewicz posted a goal and two assists and Kendra Nealy posted two assists.
Senior Lexi Baker earned the loss in net for the Beavers and falls to 0-2-0 on the season after playing 23:02 and allowed four goals and made 12 saves. She was replaced in the second period by freshman Abbie Thompason who saw her first playing time in her collegiate career. Thompson played 36:58 and allowed four goals and made 23 saves.
Bemidji State earned three power plays during the game but failed to score with the extra attacker while its penalty kill allowed one Badger power-play goal in three attempts.
Bemidji State will have next weekend off from action and will look to rebound Nov. 19-20 when it hosts University of Minnesota Duluth at the Sanford Center.
