Box Score ST. PAUL, Minn. (Gangelhoff Center) -- Bemidji State University women's basketball bounced back for a road weekend split after an 82-71 win over Concordia University-St. Paul on Saturday evening at Gangelhoff Center in St. Paul, Minn. Senior guard Trinity Yoder led the Beavers with 17 points and eight assists as the team improves to 9-6 overall and 7-4 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Five Beavers reached double-digit scoring including Yoder as senior guard Brooklyn Bachmann chipped in 14 points, junior forward Taylor Vold scored 13, senior forward Claire Wolhowe added 12 and junior guard Coley Rezabek totaled 11. Bachmann, Rezabek, Vold and Wolhowe each shot over 63 percent in the game.
Bemidji State and Concordia-St. Paul each sank eight field goals in the opening quarter with the difference coming from beyond the arc. The Beavers sank 4-of-7 3-point field goals over the opening 10 minutes, led by senior forward Claire Wolhowe with two 3-pointers and a team-high six first-quarter points. Wolhowe's 3-pointers sparked a 12-5 run by BSU to take a 20-17 lead after the first quarter.
Wolhowe added another 3-pointer in the second quarter, BSU's lone of the quarter, to extend its lead before halftime. The Beavers limited the Golden Bears to 5-of-14 shooting in the quarter and forced eight CSP turnover that led to eight points for BSU. Following a 26-26 tie with 5:17 before halftime, Bemidji State closed the quarter on a 10-2 run with scores coming from four different Beavers.
Senior guard Trinity Yoder opened the second half with a layup for her eighth point of the game while both teams traded scores over the first three minutes of the quarter. The back-end of the back-and-forth scoring started a 6-0 run for CSP who regained its lead just over two minutes later. The Beavers and Golden Bears again traded scores over the next three possessions before BSU took a four-point, 58-54 lead into the fourth quarter.
Following a basket by CSP to open the final 10 minutes, juniors Taylor Vold and Maddie Schires combined for a quick 8-0 run to push BSU's lead back to 10, 66-56. Bemidji State missed its next five field goals over a four-minute span to allow Concordia-St. Paul to take its own 8-0 run to cut the Beavers lead to two, 66-64.
Yoder scored five straight points to push BSU's lead back out to seven points while she also sank two free throws with 45 seconds to play for a 76-68 advantage. The Beavers put in 8-of-10 free throws over the final 45 seconds to hold off the Golden Bears for a road weekend split.
Bemidji State shot 50.0 percent from the field (29-58), 45.0 percent from beyond the arc (9-20) and 68.2 percent from the free throw line (15-22) while Concordia-St. Paul shot 44.8 percent from the floor (30-67), 25.0 (4-16) and 63.6 percent from the free throw line (7-11). CSP won the rebound margin, 42-31, as BSU totaled 32 points off the bench.
BSU closes a four-game road trip Jan. 21-22 with a weekend slate against the University of Sioux Falls and Southwest Minnesota State University.
