Box Score BEMIDJI, Minn. (BSU Gymnasium) – Senior guard Trinity Yoder became the newest member of the 1,000-point club at Bemidji State University as the women's basketball team took down Wayne State College on Saturday afternoon, 60-51. Yoder scored 19 points in the second half to lift the Beavers to 11-8 overall and 9-6 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Yoder crossed the 1,000-point threshold at the 9:00 mark to start the third quarter, which helped the Beavers begin a second-half comeback. She shot 6-of-10 from the field and went 13-of-19 from the free throw line, tying the BSU single-game record for free throw attempts.
The Beavers held a 12-10 lead after the first quarter before hitting a shooting lull in the second. BSU converted 2-of-12 field goals over the second quarter, including 0-of-5 from beyond the arc. WSC put in seven baskets with 10 points in the paint during the same stretch and held a 26-19 lead heading into halftime.
Yoder's career score began a 9-4 run for the Beavers to cut their deficit to four points, 32-28. BSU was held to just one field goal the rest of the quarter, a 3-pointer from junior guard Maddie Schires to cut the Wildcats' lead to six, 42-36, heading into the fourth quarter.
Bemidji State began the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run over the first two minutes of action, taking advantage of two Wildcat turnovers and a missed field goal. WSC answered to take the lead as Yoder was on a string of 12 straight points for BSU. Yoder gave the lead to the Beavers for good with a layup, 45-44, with 5:55 to play.
The Beavers defense held the Wildcats to 3-of-12 shooting from the field and caused eight turnovers in the final quarter. BSU sealed the game with 16 free throws over the final minutes, including 10-of-13 from Yoder in the fourth quarter.
Junior guard Coley Rezabek recorded eight rebounds with seven points and three assists while senior guard Brooklyn Bachmann scored eight points with four steals and three rebounds. Senior guard Sydney Zerr recorded her 105th career start with the program, surpassing Amy Lawson (2004-08) for most in program history.
Yoder joins Bachmann who also reached the 1,000-point mark Nov. 16 earlier this season.
Bemidji State returns to BSU Gymnasium for its final full weekend, hosting Minot State University Feb. 4 and the University of Mary Feb. 5 at BSU Gymnasium.
