Wendt stays red hot in 2-0 win at Mary

Fifth-year senior Sara Wendt scores both goals against Marauders

BISMARCK, N.D. – Bemidji State University Women's Soccer fifth-year senior Sara Wendt scored both goals in Friday's 2-0 victory at University of Mary to continue Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Wendt has now scored five goals in the past two games as the Beavers improve to 10-2-4 and 9-1-3 in conference play.

With the win, the Beavers earned three more points in league standings and remain second with 30 points, one point behind Minnesota State University, Mankato and nine points ahead for a top-four seed in the NSIC Tournament and first round home game.

The first half was quiet after the Marauders (9-4-3, 6-4-3 NSIC) and goalkeeper Madisyn Waltman held the Beavers off the scoreboard despite out-shooting Mary 7-3 in the half. However, just three minutes into the second half, Wendt scored her ninth goal of the season to put the Beavers up 1-0 in the 49th minute.

Wendt then scored her 10th of the season in the 82nd minute to seal the Beavers fifth consecutive victory.

Lauren Hodny and Allyson Smith each earned assists in the game with Smith recording her 29th career assist and ties Sarah Stram for most career assists in program history.

Bemidji State finished the game with 14 shots, 11 on goal, and out-shot the Marauders 14-8 (11-3).

Senior goalkeeper Georgiana Harber recorded her third shutout of the season after making three saves and improves to 4-0-1 on the season.

The Beavers return to Bemidji, Minn., to host Minot State University for a pivotal NSIC matchup at Chet Anderson Stadium Sunday. Minot State sits third in the NSIC standings and is two points behind the Beavers. The Beaver Battle will begin at Noon and will be the regular season finale for BSU.
