BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team exploded to score four goals in the second period of Saturday night's series finale with Lake Superior State University at Sanford Center to earn a 4-1 victory and salvage the series split with the Lakers.
Â
The Beavers (7-5-4, 5-2-3 CCHA) earned three points in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings with the regulation win and earned four-of-six points versus the Lakers (2-12-2, 1-8-1 CCHA) over the weekend.
Â
Three of the Beavers' four goals during the second period where scored while on the power play, a first for the Beavers this season and first since Feb. 5, 2022 where BSU scored four power-play goals against Northern Michigan University.
Â
After a scoreless first period, Bemidji State opened the scoring 3:26 into the second when
Lleyton Roed scored his sixth goal of the season and first career power-play goal after locating a loose puck in front of Laker netminder Ethan Langenegger to give the Beavers the 1-0 lead.
Â
Just 4:06 later, the Beavers increased their lead to 2-0 when senior defenseman
Kyle Looft scored his first goal of the season after a failed clearance by the Lakers defense.
Â
The goal would turn out to be the lone even-strength goal for the Beavers in the game.
Â
After surrendering a two-goal lead last night, the Beavers would be sure to hold onto the lead tonight and while on a five-on-three power play,
Ross Armour scored his fourth of the season to put the Beavers up 3-0 with 8:39 to play.
Â
The Beavers would earn another power play late in the period and it would be Armour again who would find the back of the net to score his second of the game and fifth of the season for just his second career multi-goal game.
Â
The Lakers found their legs in the third period however, out-shooting the Beavers 15-2 in the final 20 minutes. LSSU finally broke through the Beavers halfway through the third period when Louis Boudon scored a power-play goal with 12:33 to play.
Â
However, sophomore goaltender
Mattias Sholl held the Lakers in check for the remainder of the game and the Beavers claimed the 4-1 victory.
Â
Bemidji State finished the game 3-for-6 while on the power play while its penalty kill went 4-for-5.
Â
Sholl earns his fifth victory between the pipes for the Beavers after turning aside 23-of-24 shots from the Lakers and is now 5-3-4 on the season.
Â
The Beavers will now hit the road and travel to Mankato, Minn., to battle Minnesota State University, Mankato for a two-game CCHA series Thursday, Dec. 15 and Friday at Mayo Clinic HSEC.
Â
