BSU quarterback Brandon Alt finishes eighth in 2022 Harlon Hill trophy voting

John Matocha wins 2022 Harlon Hill trophy as Division II’s Player of the Year

LITTLE ROCK, Ark . – Bemidji State University junior quarterback Brandon Alt finished eighth in the 2022 Harlon Hill voting announced by the Little Rock Touchdown Club and the Great American Conference Friday evening.
 
Alt was a finalist for the Harlon Hill trophy as Division II's Player of the Year for the second consecutive season after guiding the Beavers to back-to-back Northern Sun Intercollegiate North Division titles and second round appearances in the NCAA Division II Football Tournament.
 
Colorado School of Mines senior quarterback John Matocha took home the trophy finishing with 178 points and 37 first-place votes while Ferris State University senior defensive end Caleb Murphy finished second with 117 points.. Matocha has thrown for 4,570 yards and a national-best 50 touchdowns while also rushing for 465 yards and five scores. He has led the Orediggers to the Division II National Championship title game and ranks atop D-II in passing touchdowns, efficiency, and points responsible forThe Hill Trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill – the former University of North Alabama standout – who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.
 
Alt, a native of Cottage Grove, Minn., was the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Offensive Player of the Year in 2022 and led the NSIC with 3,864 passing yards and 38 passing touchdowns ranking him third in Division II in both categories. He also posted a 156.6 passing efficiency and 59.9 completion percentage through 13 games during the 2022 season and is the program's all-time career passing yardage and career touchdown record holder with 8,649 career passing yards and 94 career passing touchdowns. He was also named to D2CCA All-Super Region 4 Second Team.
 
The Hill Trophy is named for the late Harlon Hill – the former University of North Alabama standout – who excelled with the Lions from 1950-53 before going on to fame in the National Football League with the Chicago Bears.
