BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team scored a season-high six goals Friday night at Sanford Center to outlast University of St. Thomas to earn the 6-4 victory and three points in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association standings.
Â
11 Beavers recorded a point in the game including six who recorded two points.
Â
After the first period, the Beavers (6-4-3, 4-1-2 CCHA) trailed the Tommies (4-13-0, 3-8-0 CCHA) 1-0 when Nolan Sawchuk scored his first goal of the season with 6:23 left in the opening period.
Â
The Beavers responded in the second period however, and 7:20 into the middle frame, freshman
Adam Flammang found the back of the net while on a Beaver power play to score his second goal of the season and tie the game at one.
Â
The goal opened the flood gates for the Beavers as junior
Jackson Jutting scored his first goal of the season with 7:31 left in the period and sophomore
Alexander Lundman scored his fifth-goal of the season just 28 seconds later.
Â
Â
Â
The period dwindled down to under two minutes remaining and seeming as if the Beavers would head into the second intermission with the two-goal lead. However, with 1:13 remaining, Mack Byers made it 3-2 with his fifth goal this season and with just five seconds remaining, he added his sixth of the season to tie the game at three. Byers two goals spanned just 1:12 apart.
Â
The Beavers wasted no time to regain the lead and just 27 seconds into the third period, senior Elias Rosén scored his first goal of the season to put the Beavers up 4-3.
Â
Â
Just as BSU regained the lead, it disappeared just as quick as 3:06 later Josh Eernisse scored a power-play goal for the Tommies to even the score at four.
Â
The Beavers kept battling and 3:34 after Eernisse's goal, Lundman struck again to put the Beavers on top for a second time.
Â
Bemidji State was sound defensively from then on and freshman
Lleyton Roed sealed the Beavers' victory with an empty-net goal with just 11 seconds remaining.
Â
The Beavers finished the game out-shooting the Tommies 40-24 including an 11-6 advantage in the third period.
Â
BSU finished the game going 1-for-3 while on the power play while its penalty kill allowed a goal for the first time since Nov. 4 as the Tommies went 1-for-2 with the man advantage.
Â
Sophomore goaltender
Mattias Sholl earned the win between the pipes for the Beavers and improves to 4-2-3 after making 20 saves.
