Box Score

TUCSON, Ariz. (Kino Sports Complex) -- Bemidji State University baseball took advantage of a pair of sloppy innings by Park University-Gilbert during a 3-1 win Tuesday afternoon at the Tucson Invitational Games in Tucson, Ariz. The Beavers won their second straight game to improve to 2-9 overall as the Buccaneers totaled four errors.

BSU's three runs came in the second and seventh innings off all four Park (AZ) errors. Sophomore Carter Simon led off the second inning by reaching on an error before stealing second. With two outs, sophomore Gabe Davis also reached on an error to bring Simon home. Davis stole second during the next at-bat and came home on an RBI single by freshman Zach Moritz to take a 2-0 lead.

Freshman Hunter Daymond led off the seventh inning with a single followed by two straight errors to load the bases with no outs. Daymond scored on a sacrifice fly by Simon to push BSU's lead to 3-0, which was followed by a base runner being tagged out during the play. A walk put two runners on base as both advanced to second and third with two outs. A fly out moved the game to the bottom of the inning.

Sophomore pitcher Grant Hartmann (1-0) threw the first 6.0 innings of the game, striking out five batters to tie a career-high and allowing seven hits and no walks. Hartmann earned the win after being replaced by senior Travis Carruth. Carruth threw 2.0 innings with four hits and one run allowed while junior Christian Turner earned the save with two strikeouts to close out the ninth inning.

Daymond went 2-of-4 from the plate with one run scored. Simon accounted for an RBI and a run while Davis and Moritz each added RBIs.
