Box Score ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Joe Faber Field) -- An early lead slipped away as Bemidji State University baseball fell to St. Cloud State University, 10-2, in the opening game of a three-game series at Joe Faber Field in St. Cloud, Minn. Senior Sam Kalberer tallied the go-ahead two-RBI single in the second inning as the Beavers fall to 5-30 overall and 2-19 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
St. Cloud State put two runners on base by singles in the first inning, later taking a 1-0 lead as a throwing error on a stolen base allowed the first run to score. Bemidji State answered in the home half of the second inning while loading the bases with two outs. Kalberer sent a single to left field to drive in junior Michael O'Malley and James Wirt to take a 2-1 lead.
The Beavers recorded just two hits through the remainder of the game and left two baserunners stranded in each of the fourth, sixth and ninth innings. After the Huskies scored six runs over the final three innings, the Beavers put its two runners on base in the ninth with two outs as a ground out ended the game.
Freshman Isaiah Biehn led BSU hitting 3-of-5 from the plate while Kalberer and O'Malley accounted for the team's other two hits. O'Malley also reached base on a walk while junior John Perkins reached on two walks. Junior pitcher Logan Barrick (1-6) took the loss after throwing 6.1 innings with three strikeouts.
Bemidji State and St. Cloud State close out the three-game series with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday in St. Cloud.
