Box Score 2 ST. CLOUD, Minn. (Joe Faber Field) -- St. Cloud State University used early runs during wins of 11-4 and 14-7 to complete a series sweep over Bemidji State University baseball Sunday at Joe Faber Field in Sioux Falls, S.D. Juniors Jack Munson and James Wirt led BSU with four and three RBI, respectively, as the Beavers fall to 5-32 overall and 2-21 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Game One – SCSU, 11-4
The Huskies scored the go-ahead runs of game one on a two-run home run in the first inning while Munson brought in the Beavers' first run on a sacrifice fly in the bottom half of the inning to trail, 2-1. After tallying two hits in the opening frame, BSU finished with two hits between the second and sixth innings.
BSU closed out the seventh inning with three hits and three runs, including an RBI single from Wirt and a two-RBI double by junior Derek Dolezal. Wirt finished the game 2-of-3 from the plate with one RBI and one walk while Dolezal went 1-of-2 with one walk.
Sophomore Will Lavin (1-8) started the first 5.0 innings with six strikeouts, six hits and four walks allowed.
Game Two – SCSU, 14-7
SCSU also took its go-ahead lead in the first inning of game two after loading the bases with no outs. The Huskies took a 3-0 lead on an RBI fielder's choice and a two-RBI single while leaving three runners stranded. BSU also loaded the bases after its first three batters and brought the deficit down to one, 3-2, following a bases loaded walk and a sacrifice fly.
St. Cloud State pulled away in the second inning with nine runs on five hits and one Bemidji State error, while again leaving three runners stranded. Freshman Zach Moritz came back with a double in the bottom half before eventually scoring on a wild pitch and bringing SCSU's lead down to nine, 12-3.
Munson, Wirt and senior Parker Borg accounted for BSU's final runs of the game on RBI singles in the fourth inning.The Beavers closed the final five innings with two hits and two runners left stranded.
Borg, Moritz and senior Sam Kalberer each totaled two hits while Munson led BSU with three RBI. Wirt accounted for two RBI and Moritz scored two runs.
Bemidji State will travel for its next series, a doubleheader Wednesday, April 27 at Northern State University in Aberdeen, S.D.
