Box Score BRANDON, S.D. -- Bemidji State University baseball made a late push Saturday night during a 5-3 loss to the University of Sioux Falls in Brandon, S.D. Sophomore Jack Munson totaled two RBI while senior Tom Keohen homered as the Beavers fall to 4-24 overall and 1-13 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.
Junior pitcher Logan Barrick (1-5) threw 6.2 innings with five strikeouts but allowed two first-inning runs to the Cougars. USF took its first and final lead of the night on a two-run home run, set up by a one-out walk. Barrick retired the following six batters faced and 14 of 16 overall through the end of the fifth inning.
Bemidji State put one runner on base in each of the first and second innings before lighting the scoreboard for the first time in the fourth inning. Keohen knocked out his sixth career home run, his first of the season, to right field to cut the deficit to one, 2-1.
The Cougars cashed in on a single and two-out triple to extend its lead again in the sixth inning and added one more run in the seventh behind three hits to pull ahead, 4-1.
Junior catcher Derek Dolezal led off the bottom of the seventh with a hit by pitch to reach base. Two walks loaded the bases for BSU as Munson followed with a two-RBI single to right field to cut the deficit to one, 4-3.
USF closed scoring in the eighth inning as a single and stolen base set up an RBI single for a 5-1 lead. Bemidji State put one runner on in each of the eighth and ninth innings as both were left stranded.
BSU left eight runners on base through the game compared to four for USF. Six different Beavers accounted for the team's six hits.
Bemidji State and Sioux Falls close out the three-game series at 12 p.m. Sunday with a doubleheader at First National Bank Field.
