Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

MARSHALL, Minn. (Legion Field) -- Sophomore Jack Munson tied a career-high four RBI Sunday afternoon in game one of a doubleheader as the Bemidji State University baseball team was swept by Southwest Minnesota State University in Marshall, Minn. Munson recorded a two-RBI double and two-run home run as the Beavers fall to 5-36 overall and 2-25 in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference.

Game One – SMSU, 8-7
Munson's hot day began as part of four straight hits by BSU to start game one. Each of the Beavers' first three batters recorded singles to load the bases with no outs. Munson doubled to center field to drive in freshmen Isaiah Biehn and Hunter Daymond and take a 2-0 lead. Junior James Wirt followed on the next at-bat with a sacrifice fly before a home run from senior Parker Borg to extend the first-inning lead to 5-0.

Following two runs from SMSU in the bottom of the first inning, Munson added to his RBI total and the BSU lead with a two-run home run to right field. It was his second career home run and first of this season.

Junior Logan Barrick (1-6) threw the first 6.0 innings on his way to his second win of the season. He finished with six strikeouts, two walks and six hits allowed, and left four runners left on base.

SMSU closed the game with six straight baserunners, including three straight singles capped by a walk-off two-RBI single.

Game Two – SMSU, 8-1
The Beavers left one runner on base in the top of the first inning before the Mustangs' first three batters singled, which led to a 2-0 lead for SMSU heading into the second. The Mustangs added three runs in the second inning and one in each of the third, fourth and fifth innings for an 8-0 lead.

Bemidji State left two base runners stranded in the second inning but failed to put any runners on again until Daymond singled in the sixth inning. BSU didn't record another hit until the ninth inning when Wirt and senior Tom Keohen recorded back-to-back singles to score BSU's first run. A lead-off walk by Daymond in the ninth inning set up an RBI single by Keohen to cut the deficit to seven runs.

Sophomore pitcher Will Lavin (1-8) took the loss while senior Alex Fietek threw 2.0 innings and freshman Derek Hoffman threw 3.0 innings with two strikeouts and no hits allowed.

Bemidji State wraps up its 2022 road schedule Tuesday, May 3 with a trip to take on Minot State University.
