MARQUETTE, Mich. – The Bemidji State University volleyball team split the final day at the Northern Michigan University Open Saturday evening to conclude play at the tournament. The Beavers (1-3, 0-0 NSIC) began the day by earning their first victory of the season with a thrilling five-set win over Lake Superior State University.

BSU then fell to host school Northern Michigan in four sets to fall to 1-3 in the first weekend of play.

The Beavers were led by junior
Hallie Mertz who totaled 27 kills over the two matched including tying a career-high with 15 kills in the Beavers 3-2 win over Lake Superior State. She was followed by redshirt junior
Ashley East who totaled 16 kills over two matches including a career-high nine against the Lakers.

BSU will now prepare to head south and travel to St. Augustine, Florida to compete in the Flagler Saints Invitational hosted by Flagler College. The Beavers will face Southern New Hampshire, Flager, Emmanuel College and Eckerd College at the two-day tournament.
