BROOKINGS, S.D. – The South Dakota State University women's soccer team earned a 3-0 victory over No. 9 Bemidji State University Sunday afternoon to open the Beavers' 2022 season. The loss snapped a seven-game season-opener win streak for the Beavers dating back to 2014.

Bemidji State was out-shot 17-5 in the game including 7-2 in shots on goal.

The Jackrabbits opened the scoring in the 16
th minute when Maya Hansen scored in the top-right corner to beat senior goalkeeper
Alyssa Stumbaugh. BSU would enter the half down just the lone goal but with just 10 minutes remaining in the game, SDSU scored two goals in the 80
th minute and 81
st minute to cap-off the three-goal victory.

Sara Wendt recorded both the team's two shots on goal in the game while Stumbaugh finished with four saves.

The No. 9 Beavers will look to rebound next weekend with a pair of non-conference matchups at Northern Michigan University and Michigan Technological University Sept. 2 and 4, respectively.
