Petry ties for first as Beavers finish second at Watkins Invitational

BSU Men’s Golf freshman Rylin Petry earns silver medal after playoff

LAKE CITY, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Golf freshman Rylin Petry tied for first overall with an even-par 144 (73-71) in part of the Beavers' second-place finish at the Watkins Invitational Tuesday afternoon held at The Jewel Golf Course in Lake City, Minn. Petry was in sixth after the first round but shot a one-under par 71 in round two to tie for first and earned a spot into a three-person playoff.

Petry was tied with University of Minnesota State, Mankato's Max Brud and Missouri University of Science and Technology's Gustav Liljedahl after the final hole but Brud won the three-hole playoff after chipping in for eagle on the ninth hole. Petry earned the silver medal however after recording a birdie on the same hole.

Led by Petry, the Beavers finished second in the tournament with a team score of 596 (295-301) finishing eight strokes behind first-place Missouri S&T (295-293=588). Winona State University (299-298=597) finished one stroke behind the Beavers to round out the top three teams.

Following Petry was senior Ben Corbid who was two-strokes behind him (73-73=146) and ended up tying for seventh individually. Jack Southard (72-79=151), Logan Schoepp (77-78=155) and Caden Lick (80-81=161) rounded out the top-five scorers for the Beavers. BSU also had four competing as individuals in the tournament in Finn McLaughlin (83-78=161), Seth Schricker (81-85=166), Tanner Wanous (83-83=166) and Cody Card (82-84=166).
