BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University athletic department, in partnership with the Bemidji Area Chamber of Commerce and Lueken's, will be hosting a Make-A-Wish night that will take place on Saturday, February 4 during the men's hockey game against Michigan Tech starting at 6:07 p.m. at Sanford Center. The BSU student-athlete advisory committee (SAAC) played a big role in organizing and planning the event for the community.
"This summer, four of us SAAC student-athletes went to the NSIC SAAC Summit and there we were able to meet and talk with athletes from other schools. Make-A-Wish partners with Division II athletics each year and after talking with some other schools who did their Make-A-Wish event at hockey games, we thought it would be great for BSU to do it as well," said Rumer Flatness, BSU SAAC President. "I have a little sister who is classmates with Isla, as Isla has a condition called Shone's Syndrome and used her wish as Disney World. Isla is such a sweet, positive little gal that we thought she would be a great person to have as an honorary captain and tell her story. Her story really inspired me, and I think it will really inspire others as well."
Come out and not only support your BSU men's hockey team in an important conference game, but also support a good cause. Tickets start at $5 for general admission, with all other tickets discounted. All tickets will be discounted $10 from the regular price. Discounted tickets are available at the box office or on Ticketmaster using code MAKEAW. Lueken's will be sponsoring a Teddy Bear Toss following the first Beaver goal. The bears will then be given to the Family Advocacy Center of Northern Minnesota. Chuck-A-Puck will still happen during the second intermission, with all proceeds benefiting the local Make-A-Wish Minnesota chapter. Fans can also bring their own teddy bear, new and preferably still in the plastic wrap, and throw it out onto the ice during the first Beaver goal.
"We are so proud of our Student-Athlete Advisory Committee for lighting the spark on this event, and thankful to our incredible community sponsors who are taking the event to the next level," BSU Director of Athletics Britt Lauritsen said. "To be able to highlight a local Make-A-Wish family, to embrace our commitment to community engagement, and to present a night of fun and exciting Beaver hockey checks all the boxes. We are hoping to sell out the Sanford Center and to show how Bemidji shows up to support amazing causes TOGETHER. Wear your Beaver green and join us!"
