SAULT STE. MARIE, Mich. – After the Bemidji State University Men's hockey team scored the game-winning goal with just 16.8 seconds remaining last night, Lake Superior State University answered back by scoring the game-winning goal with just 13.3 seconds Saturday night in their Central Collegiate Hockey Association series finale.
Â
Bemidji State (11-10-5, 9-6-3 CCHA) opened the game when
Ross Armour scored his third goal of the series after locating a loose puck in front of the crease at 7:29 of the first period.
Â
The goal was his team-leading ninth goal of the season and he has scored a goal in the past three games.
Â
Bemidji State would head into the locker-room for the first intermission with the one goal lead but just 49 seconds into the middle frame the Lakers would score a power-play from the stick of Harrison Roy to tie the game. However, just 1:14 later
Lleyton Roed came down the left wing and fired a puck that beat LSSU goaltender Seth Eisele short-side for his eighth goal of the season and put the Beavers back up by one.
Â
Â
Roed has now reached the 20-point mark of the season, leads all CCHA rookies in scoring and has eight points (2g-6a) over the last seven games.
Â
The Beavers would carry the one-goal lead into the final 20 minutes and have been 6-1-1 when carrying a lead into the final period. However, that streak would break in tonight's game when Jared Westcott scored at the 10:56 mark to tie the game and then Roy scored his second of the game while on a Lakers power play with just 13.3 seconds left to send LSSU to victory.
Â
Bemidji State dominated play in terms of shots and out-shot Lake Superior State 36-19 in the game.
Â
BSU committed five penalties for 13 minutes including one five-minute major in the game and the Lakers capitalized and scored on two of their six power play chances.
Â
Bemidji State earned three power-play opportunities but were held off the scoresheet while on the man advantage.
Â
Junior
Gavin Enright made his first start in between the pipes since Jan. 7 and stopped 16-of-19 shots but he falls to 3-4-0 on the season with the loss.
Â
The Beavers now return home to host Michigan Technological University at Sanford Center next weekend for a pivotal CCHA series. Bemidji State trails the Huskies by seven points in the CCHA standings but have two games in hand. Puck drop for the Feb. 3-4 series begins at 7:07 p.m., Friday and then 6:07 p.m., Saturday.
