BEMIDJI, Minn. – For the first time in her career, junior goaltender
Abbie Thompson has been recognized as the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Goaltender of the Week announced by the league Monday afternoon.

The Forest Lake, Minn., native was named the league's top goaltender for the week after she stopped the fourth-most shots in a single game in program history making 60 saves against No. 1 University of Wisconsin last Friday night. Thompson stopped the games' first 35 shots through two periods to keep the Beavers in a 0-0 battle with the top-ranked Badgers. She finished the night stopping 60-of-64 shots, the most in program history since Lauren Bench stopped a program record 70 shots in 2020.
Â
This is her first WCHA weekly accolade and she is the first Beaver to earn Goaltender of the Week since
Hannah Hogenson on Dec. 20, 2021.
Â
She is joined by St. Cloud State University's Klara Hymlarova (Forward), University of Wisconsin's Anna Wilgren (Defenseman), and University of Minnesota Duluth's Eve Gascon (Rookie) as weekly award recipients.
Â
Bemidji State makes its return to Sanford Center this weekend to begin a six-game homestand by hosting Minnesota Duluth at 3 and 2 p.m. The Beavers will attempt to bring awareness to Organ Donation in Saturday's series finale with their Organ Donation Awareness game.
