ST. PAUL, Minn. – Despite a solid 13-2 shot advantage in the second half, the Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team settled for a 0-0 draw at Concordia-St. Paul Friday night in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play at Sea Foam Stadium.
It was a cold night in St. Paul and the teams struggled to get much going in the first half. There was a total of six shots over the first 45 minutes, with the Golden Bears (7-6-3, 5-4-3 NSIC) holding the 4-2 edge. Over the final 45 minutes, the Beavers (8-2-6, 6-2-4 NSIC) brought the pressure with a 13-2 shot advantage but couldn't net a goal. BSU finished with a 6-4 edge in shots on goal. CSP held the 8-5 advantage on corner kicks.
Edie Frantzen recorded her eighth shutout of the season coming away with three saves. Sylve Waters and Katrina Barthelt tallied three shots apiece, with Waters landing two on goal and one for Barthelt. Maggie Cade, Megan Ko, and Lauren Harrison all added shots on goal.
Early on, the Golden Bears had some chances on a trio of corners kicks in the seventh minute. Following the fourth corner kick for CSP, Bemidji State recorded the first shot on goal in the 15th minute off the foot of Ko that was saved.
That would be the only shot on goal in the first half for the Beavers. Frantzen and the BSU defense came up with a couple of saves to keep the game scoreless. A team save for the Beavers in the 39th minute and then a save by Frantzen in the 40th minute sent the match into the half scoreless.
Frantzen came up with two early saves in the second half in the 48th and 50th minute before the Beavers began to take over. Waters fired two straight shots on target around the 54th minute that were saved. Just past the 60th minute, Harrison recorded a shot on goal that was also turned away. A couple of minutes later, Barthelt landed a shot to the top right that was saved.
Bemidji State made one last push over the final few minutes with Cade's shot in the 89th minute being saved, before Kenzie Harer's final attempt in the 90th minute missed ending the game in a 0-0 draw.
With the NSIC Tournament just around the corner, several results moved teams around on Friday.
