BEMIDJI, Minn. – Sophomore Katrina Barthelt continued her scoring stretch over the first 10 games of the season recording the only tally of the match Friday night to send the Bemidji State University Soccer team to the 1-0 win over Minnesota State University Moorhead at Chet Anderson Stadium in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play.
Bemidji State (7-0-3, 5-0-1 NSIC) ran their unbeaten streak to 10 games and picked up their fifth conference win in six games. With Barthelt's goal Friday night, she has now scored in six games this season and has a goal in five of the last six games.
Early on, the Beavers dominated play in the first half. A couple of good chances happened near the 18th minute when Barthelt ripped a shot right on target that was saved. Her follow-up shot just missed high keeping the game scoreless.
The pressure continued with a couple more looks near the 21st minute and then Barthelt had another chance in the 24th minute that was turned away. Several more chances took place the remainder of the opening half as Bemidji State generated eight shots to just one for MSU Moorhead (1-6-4, 0-3-4 NSIC) over the first 45 minutes.
To start the second half, BSU collected a pair of shots and generated a corner kick before finally breaking through. After Barthelt had a shot from in close that was saved, a minute later she picked up a loose ball and fired it into the net in the 50th minute for the 1-0 lead and her seventh goal of the season.
BSU had three more shots the rest of the half to preserve the 1-0 victory. For the match, Bemidji State tallied 14 shots (six on goal) to just one total shot for the Dragons. Junior Edie Frantzen recorded her sixth shutout of the season. The one total shot is a season-best for the Beavers and was the third time this season not allowing any shots on goal.
