BEMIDJI, Minn. – Redshirt freshman
Kenzie Harer sent the Bemidji State University Women's Soccer team to the next round of the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Tournament Monday evening after scoring the game-winning goal in the 105
th minute of double overtime over Augustana University.
Â
The extra time tally sends the Beavers (10-3-6) onto the semifinal round of the NSIC Women's Soccer Tournament for the third consecutive season. BSU will face top-seed and semifinal-championship match host St. Cloud State University Friday at 2 p.m.
Â
After a scoreless first half filled with multiple chances from each team, the Vikings (9-7-3) stunned the Beavers with a goal off the right foot of Hope Korte in the 68
th minute. The Beavers regrouped and continued pressing on believing that an equalizing goal was to come.
Â
That belief paied off in the 87
th minute when
Lauren Hodny carved her way through the Vikings defenses and placed a right-footed shot to the far-right post that slipped through the goalkeeper's hands and into the back of the net.
Â
Â
Extra would be needed to see who would move on to St. Cloud for the semifinal match and after the teams played a scoreless 10 minutes in the first overtime half, Harer propelled the Beavers to the next round after she beat the goalkeeper to a through pass from Hodny and stuck her right foot out to poke the ball for the game-winning goal in the 105
th minute.
Â
Â
The goal was the just the second of her career playing in her first postseason match.
Â
BSU totaled 23 shots in the match and 10 on target while the Vikings had 16 shots and 10 on goal.
Â
NSIC Goalkeeper of the Week
Edie Frantzen played one of the best matches in her career stopping a career-high nine shots four days removed from stopping a previous career-high seven shots against University of Minnesota Duluth in the regular season finale.
Â
