BSU Baseball opens 2023 campaign at No. 12 Illinois Springfield

Beaver Baseball gets 2023 season underway against top-15 opponent

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team gets its 2023 season underway this weekend and will travel to Springfield, Ill., to face No. 12 University of Illinois Springfield for a pair of doubleheaders Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday. Each doubleheader between the Beavers and Prairie Stars will begin at 11:00 a.m. CT.

Bemidji State officially opens its 2023 season looking to improve on the 2022 season where it went 6-40 and 3-29 in conference play. The Beavers were picked to finish 15th in the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Preseason Coaches' Poll with junior Jack Munson and Will Lavin were tabbed as the Beavers' Preseason Player and Pitcher to Watch, respectively.
 
The Beavers return 15 letterwinners from the 2022 season and 18 newcomers will make their debuts for the Beavers in the upcoming season.
 
The Prairie Stars are seven games into their season already and are 4-3 after the first two weekends. This weekend's series will be the home opener for UIS as it spent the first two weekends on the road at No. 16 Lenoir-Rhyne University and won all three games at the MIAA/GLVC Crossover hosted by Missouri Western State University.
 
The Prairie Stars are led at the plate by Asher Bradd who is batting .500 with 15 hits, three doubles and three RBI through seven games. On the mound, Chad Saner paces the team with 10 innings pitched and is 1-0 with a 0.90 ERA and 13 strikeouts.
