BSU Tennis runs into tough matchup with Mavericks

Minnesota State takes the 7-0 victory

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team hosted Minnesota State on Friday inside Gillett Center with the Mavericks claiming the 7-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference win.

Minnesota State (12-1, 9-1 NSIC) picked up their 10th straight win since losing the only match of the year to Augustana back on Feb. 25.

Lexi Leitner/Lily Jones tallied two games in their No. 3 doubles match before falling by a 6-2 score. Nicoleta Anestiadi/Emilia Sand at No. 1 and Isabela Nelson/Laura Burger at No. 3 lost by the same scores of 6-0.

In singles, the Beavers (2-14, 1-9 NSIC) claimed several games in the first three matches. At the top flight, Anestiadi moved up to play No. 1 and after falling 6-1 in the first set, came back with a solid second set before falling just short by a 6-3 score. Sand at No. 2 did almost the exact same thing. After dropping the first set by a 6-1 score, she fought back with four games in the second before coming up short by a 6-4 score. Burger at No. 3 played a solid opening set before falling short in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-1. Jones won one game at No. 5, 6-1, 6-0. Then both Nelson at No. 4 and Leitner at No. 6 fell by the same scores of 6-0, 6-0.

The Beavers will close out the regular season tomorrow (Saturday) when they host Southwest Minnesota State beginning at 1 p.m. inside Gillett Center.
