CABOT, Ark. – Freshman Rylin Petry tied for third as the Bemidji State University Men's Golf team moved up to fourth after the third and final round of the Natural State Golf Classic wrapped up Tuesday at the Cypress Creek Golf Club.
Petry collected his fifth top-five finish this spring, which has been every tournament thus far. Petry tied for third with rounds of 69-77-70 for an even par 216. His first round 69 was the lowest in the field for the opening round. He tied for the lead in the field in pars with 38, added seven birdies and an eagle. Petry was second in par-three scoring (3.00) and third in par-four scoring (4.07).
As a team, the Beavers moved up a spot from fifth to finish fourth on Tuesday with rounds of 301-301-302 for a two-day total of 904. Henderson State, the top-ranked team in the Central Region, remained in first to win by 20-strokes with an 869. Southern Arkansas came in second with an 889 and Harding in third at 895. Henderson State's Alex Hadden took home the individual title with a two-under 214, winning by a stroke.
Outside of Petry's strong finish, freshman Caden Lick added a top-20 finish as he fired rounds of 78-72-77 for a 227 to tie for 19th. Lick was tied for the team lead in birdies with nine and added an eagle. He posted 26 pars over the three rounds.
Fifth-year Ben Corbid had similar rounds throughout the tournament of 76-76-78 for a 230 to finish 27th. Corbid posted 35 pars and added four birdies. Junior Jack Southard was just a few shots back of Corbid with a 233 (80-76-77) to tie for 32nd. Southard carded 33 pars and had four birdies. Sophomore Tanner Wanous rounded out the five for the Beavers with rounds of 78-82-78 for a 238. Wanous came away with 31 pars and three birdies.
Freshman Logan Schoepp competed as an individual and tied with Southard for 32nd after rounds of 81-77-75 for his 233. Schoepp was among the leaders in par-three scoring (3.17) and added nine birdies.
As a team, Bemidji State led the field in pars with 163, had 27 birdies and two eagles. The Beavers averaged 3.32 on par-three, 4.31 on par-four and 4.98 on par-five.
Bemidji State will have a quick turnaround as they will now prepare for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference Championships this Friday-Sunday that will take place at the Adams Pointe Golf Club in Blue Springs, Mo. The Beavers played on this course back on Mar. 27-28 placing third out of 20 teams and were the top finishing team from the NSIC.
