GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The doubles point went right down to the end as the Bemidji State University Women's Tennis team ran into a tough matchup with MSU Moorhead on Sunday with the Dragons claiming the 7-0 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference victory.
Bemidji State (2-13, 1-8 NSIC) came out strong in doubles. At No. 1, Blanca Lopez-Oro/Nicoleta Anestiadi and then at No. 3 with Lexi Leitner/Isabela Nelson, both matchups would be pushed to a tiebreaker. Leitner/Nelson fell by a tight score of 7-6 (5). Then Lopez-Oro/Anestiadi couldn't get past their matchup in the tiebreaker either coming up short by a score of 7-6 (3). Laura Burger/Lily Jones battled at No. 2, but fell by a score of 6-2.
MSU Moorhead (7-9, 3-6 NSIC) then took off in singles winning all six matches in straight sets. Lopez-Oro at No. 1 and Anestiadi at No. 2 each won six games. Lopez-Oro fell by set scores of 6-2, 6-4, while it was the reverse for Anestiadi coming up short by scores of 6-4, 6-2. Leitner collected five games at No. 6 before falling 6-3, 6-2. Jones came out strong in her opening set at No. 5 winning three games, but it wasn't enough dropping the match by scores of 6-3, 6-0. Burger at No. 3 and Nelson at No. 4 lost by the same set scores of 6-0, 6-1.
The Beavers will have the upcoming week off before hosting two NSIC matches on Apr. 14-15. BSU will face Minnesota State, Mankato on Apr. 14 at 1:30 p.m. and then Southwest Minnesota State on Apr. 15 at 1 p.m. Both matches will be played at BSU's Gillett Wellness Center.
