BSU Baseball continues road trip for three-game set at Wayne State

Beavers travel south to Wayne, Neb., for Fri-Sat series versus Wildcats

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team continues its challenging start to the season with yet another road trip this weekend and will travel south to Wayne, Neb., for a three-game Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference series at Wayne State College.

The Beavers (2-28, 1-14 NSIC) and Wildcats (11-15, 5-7 NSIC) begin their series Friday, April 7 with a doubleheader beginning at 1:30 p.m., and will play one game Saturday at Noon to wrap-up the series.

Bemidji State has played all 30 of its games in the first half of the season away from home due to lingering winter conditions at the BSU Baseball Field. The road has taken a toll on the Beavers who are looking for their first win in nine games and first road victory. Both wins of the season have come at neutral locations.

Bemidji State is batting .230 as a team which is 15th in the NSIC while also slugging .315 and holds an on-base percentage of .336. Junior Jack Munson leads the Beavers at the plate batting .310 and has started 28-of-30 games. In 100 at bats he has 31 hits including six doubles, two triples, four home runs and leads the team with 15 RBI. He also leads the team in slugging percentage (.530), hits (31), runs scored (18), RBI (15), doubles (6), triples (2) and home runs (4).

On the basepaths, sophomore Hunter Daymond paces the team with five stolen bases on six attempts and also leads the team with four sacrifice hits. He has reached base in 10 consecutive games, the longest active streak for the Beavers and in 77 at bats has just seven strikeouts for the fewest on the team.

Leading the team on the bump is senior Logan Barrick who has pitched 37.0 innings and is 1-2 with an ERA of 5.35 in seven appearances. He is coming off a complete seven-inning game allow just three hits and earned his 108th career strikeout to become the 11th member of the BSU Baseball program to reach the century mark and ranks eighth all-time at BSU.

He is followed by junior Will Lavin who has pitched 29.2 innings but leads the team with a 5.16 ERA. He is 1-4 on the season in six appearances and leads the team with 36 strikeouts to tie for 13th most in the NSIC. He has totaled 131 punch outs in his career and ranks fifth in program history. He is 19 k's shy of reaching 150 to become only the second pitcher in BSU history to reach the mark.

Bemidji State's relievers are led by freshman Christian Lindow who has pitched 14.1 innings, has posted a 6.91 ERA and is the lone Beaver to earn a save this season. He is followed by Konrad Ksich who has a 6.75 ERA in 12.0 innings while Ethan Lung (8.18/11.0) and AJ Gengler (9.24/12.2) follow.

The Wildcats enter the Easter weekend 11th in the NSIC standings holding a 5-7 league record and are 11-15 overall. Wayne State has won its last three games and are coming off a series sweep of University of Minnesota Duluth on Tuesday.
