Stanton’s first collegiate goal propels (RV) BSU Soccer to 1-0 victory in Beaver Battle

Freshman Lucy Stanton scores in the 37th minute to secure 1-0 victory over Minot State

BEMIDJI, Minn. – (RV) Bemidji State University Women's Soccer freshman Lucy Stanton scored her first collegiate goal in the 37th minute while junior Edie Frantzen and the Beavers' defense earned their third consecutive shutout to lift the Beavers to a 1-0 victory over Minot State University Tuesday evening at Chet Anderson Stadium.

The win was the second consecutive for the Beavers who concluded non-conference play with an undefeated record at 2-0-2.

Stanton sent the Beavers ahead in the first half with a right-footed strike from outside the penalty box that beat goalkeeper Siriana Gudino to the left side in the 37th minute. She was assisted by fellow freshman Madeline Davey with a touch pass for her first career assist and is now tied for the team lead with three points.

The Beavers out shot Minot State 12-4 in the match holding possession in their attacking half for a majority of the 90 minutes. However, MiSU was more efficient with its shots posting two on goal with BSU only challenging the goalkeeper with three.

Frantzen was there when the Beavers needed her and denied Minot State on her two shots faced to earn her third consecutive shutout and is now tied for the Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference lead for clean sheets (3).

Bemidji State will now look ahead to Friday as it begins NSIC play. The Beavers open the conference season by traveling to travel partner University of Minnesota, Crookston for a 3 p.m. match in Crookston, Minn. BSU will then return home Sunday, Sept. 17 to host St. Cloud State University at 1 p.m. for its Cheryl Smyth Breast Cancer Awareness match.
