BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team fell 4-2 in game one of its Central Collegiate Hockey Association series Friday night in Big Rapids, Mich. The Bulldogs scored two quick goals at the start of the second period to pull away from the Beavers and earn three league points in the CCHA standings.

Senior
Jere Vaisanen scored both goals for the Beavers, his second career two-goal night and first since 2021-22. Bemidji State falls to 1-3-0 to start the season and drop their first CCHA game of the season.

Ferris State started the game by scoring a short-handed goal 9:58 into the first period off the stick of Nico DeVita. Just 2:15 later however, Vaisanen tied the game with his second goal of the season with an even-strength marker.

The teams would head into the first intermission locked in the 1-1 tie but just 1:42 into the second period, Xavier Jean-Louis scored to put the Bulldogs back on top. Just 16 seconds later, Caiden Gault shocked the Beaver bench by scoring on a breakaway to put FSU up by two.

The Bulldogs would then increase their lead to three with 7:06 left in the middle frame off a goal from Matt Corbet.

Vaisanen would pull the Beavers within two with a power-play goal 5:35 into the third period but the Beavers couldn't find the back of the net again and Ferris State claimed the game one victory.

Bemidji State out-shot the Bulldogs 27-23 in the game but FSU's Noah West turned aside 25-of-27 shots while senior
Mattias Sholl finished with 19 saves.

Bemidji State finished 1-for-5 on the power play and denied the Bulldogs on their two power play chances in the game.

The two teams will meet again tomorrow evening at Ewigleben Arena for game two. Puck drop is slated for 5:07 p.m. CT.
