Beavers and No. 15/14 Fighting Hawks skate to 3-3 tie Saturday night

BSU Men’s Hockey goes 1-0-1 against No. 15/15 North Dakota

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team skated to a 3-3 tie with No. 15/14 University of North Dakota Saturday night at Ralph Engelstad Arena to win the weekend going 1-0-1 in their non-conference home-and-home series. It was the second time in program history that the Beavers won their series against the Fighting Hawks after also earing a victory and tie on Oct. 12-13, 2018.

Adam Flammang, Reilly Funk and Noah Quinn each scored for the Beavers while Mattias Sholl stopped 21-of-24 shots.

The Beavers conclude play in November finishing the month with a 5-3-2 record in the month, extended their unbeaten streak to five games (3-0-2) and are now 7-6-2 on the season. The Fighting Hawks earned their first draw of the season and move to 7-7-1.

Junior Adam Flammang and sophomore Noah Quinn each scored their first goals of the season while junior Reilly Funk scored his second goal in three games and extended his point streak to three. Junior A.J. Macaulay earned his first point with the green and white after assisting on Funk's goal.

Flammang opened the scoring 9:04 into the first period with an unassisted goal for his first of the season.

The Fighting Hawks struck before the period's end with a pair of quick goals just 1:19 apart with under two minutes remaining in the frame.

Bemidji State answered quickly in the second period after Funk scored his fifth of the season 2:14 into the middle frame.

Just 49 seconds later, Quinn batted home his first of the season to put the Beavers back in front and chased UND starting netminder Hobie Hedquist out of the crease.

However, just 59 seconds after Quinn's goal, UND's Jake Schmaltz tied the game again and the teams were locked in a 3-3 battle.

After the goalie substitution, the Beavers had trouble beating new goaltender T.J. Semptimphelter who denied all 18 shots he faced in the game. Sholl was also dominant in the final minutes of the game turning aside the final 13 shots following Schmaltz's goal.

The teams took to the 3-on-3 overtime to try and find a winner but neither team could beat the opposing goaltender to end the game officially as a tie.

Bemidji State will put its five-game unbeaten streak to the test on the road next weekend and travels to Sault Ste. Marie, Mich., for a CCHA series with Lake Superior State University.
