BSU Baseball back in action with road trip to Rockhurst

Beavers to play four-game series at Rockhurst in Kansas City, Mo.

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Baseball team is back in action this weekend and travels to Kansas City, Mo., to face Rockhurst University for a four-game non-conference series starting Friday, Feb. 23 and ending Sunday.
 
The series starts with a single game Friday with first pitch at 2:00 p.m., then the teams play a doubleheader Saturday beginning at 12 p.m. The Beavers close out their series with the Hawks with a single game Sunday at 12 p.m.

Bemidji State returns to action after a week off and last played Feb. 9-11 after opening the 2024 season with a Northern Sun Intercollegiate series against Wayne State College in Elkhorn, Neb. The Beavers fell in all four games versus the Wildcats but saw their best offensive output of its series in game four after scoring nine runs off eight hits but fell just short of victory falling 12-9.
 
The Beavers were led by freshman Matt Filippi who went 5-for-13 (.385) in the series and hit one home run and one RBI. Sophomore Riley Czech batted .375 (3-for-8) with a double and tied for the team lead with freshman Hudson Filippi with three runs batted in.
 
Freshman Jacob Smith paces the Beaver pitching staff with a 1.93 ERA after starting game two and pitching 4.2 innings allowing just one earned run and struck out four. Matt Filippi also paces the Beavers' bullpen pitching 2.1 innings of scoreless baseball in his mound debut. Sawyer Nendick, Ty Schulte, Ty Karger and M. Filippi all have 0.00 ERA's coming from the bullpen.
 
Rockhurst (4-2) opened their home schedule with a split of a four-game series with University of Wisconsin-Parkside on Monday. The Hawks rallied for an 8-7 win in the series opener Sunday and posted a 5-3 win over the Rangers Monday. Bemidji State is 3-8 all-time against the Hawks and last played in 2022 with RU earning a four-game sweep in Omaha, Neb.
 
After this weekend the Beavers will return to Missouri for spring break, playing William Jewell College for four games and University of Missouri-St. Louis for two March 1-4 to end the non-conference season.
