Beavers shutout Manitoba in exhibition matchup

BSU Men’s Hockey defeats Manitoba 5-0 in exhibition Friday night

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team cruised to a 5-0 victory over University of Manitoba Friday night at Sanford Center in an exhibition matchup. Freshman Jaksen Panzer led the Beavers scoring twice in the game while sophomore Raythan Robbins and freshman Trent Wiemken combined to make 19 saves for the Beaver shutout.

Four different Beavers scored in the game including junior Reilly Funk who added an assist for a two-point night. Junior Adam Flammang and graduate Carter Randklev each added a goal.

Bemidji State took an early lead in the first period with a goal by Funk at 15:50. The team maintained offensive pressure, winning several faceoffs and taking numerous shots, though many were saved by the Bisons' Braden Holt. The Bisons struggled to find the net, with shots from Dawson Pasternak and others either going wide or saved by Raythan Robbins. The period ended with Bemidji State leading 1-0, having controlled much of the play through effective faceoff wins and defensive blocks.

Much of the second period was played with the Beavers holding the one-goal lead but with 4:14 left in the period, Panzer scored an even-strength goal to increase Bemidji State's lead to 2-0. The period ended with Bemidji State maintaining their two-goal advantage over the Bisons.

In the third period, Bemidji State continued to dominate with Adam Flammang scoring at 15:52 extending their lead to 3-0. Shortly after, at 12:34, Panzer added another goal for Bemidji State to bring the Beavers' lead to four while Randklev further increased the lead to 5-0 at the 7:20 mark to cap-off the Beavers' scoring.

Head coach Tom Serratore split time in net between Robbins and Wiemken with Robbins earning the start and playing the game's first 30 minutes. He made all seven saves he faced while Wiemken denied all 12 shots he faced in the final 30 minutes.

Bemidji State will now prepare to resume Central Collegiate Hockey Association with a road trip to Bowling Green, Ohio to face Bowling Green State University Jan. 10-11.
