Beavers return to action with road trip to (RV) Minnesota State

BSU Women’s Hockey returns after consecutive bye weeks with road trip to (RV) Mavericks

BEMIDJI, Minn. – The Bemidji State University Women's Hockey team makes its return to the ice after consecutive bye weeks and hits the road for a Western Collegiate Hockey Association series at (RV) Minnesota State University, Mankato.
 
The Beavers (2-4-0, 0-4-0 WCHA) prepare for their first meeting with the Mavericks (5-5-0, 1-5-0 WCHA) this season and begin their two-game series Friday, Oct. 31 at 6:02 p.m. The teams will then close out their series Saturday at 2:02 p.m.
 
Each game will be streamed exclusively online at Big Ten Plus with Minnesota State Athletics providing play-by-play. A Beaver Radio Network broadcast will also be available online at www.beaverradionetwork.com or on the radio dial at FM 94.3.
 
Bemidji State Notes
  • Bemidji State finally makes its return to the ice after two bye weeks in-a-row and last played Oct. 10-11 at No. 2 Ohio State University.
  • The Beavers are led by junior captain Hailey Armstrong who has six goals in six games and is tied for sixth nationally averaging a goal per game.
  • She is followed by junior Kate Johnson who has five points off a team-high four assists.
  • Sophomore Morgan Smith is third on the team with four points off a goal and three assists.
  • Armstrong's six goals on 14 shots leads the WCHA with a 0.43 shot percentage.
  • Junior and St. Cloud State transfer Carmen Bray leads BSU's blueline with three points tallying three assists in six games this season.
  • Sophomore Kaitlin Groess has started five-of-six games in net for the Beavers and is 2-3-0 with a 4.27 goals against average and .866 save percentage.
  • Senior and Saint Anselm transfer Ava Hills made her first appearances in between the pipes at Ohio State for the Beavers where she stopped 70-of-72 shots she faced.
  • Bemidji State leads the WCHA averaging 14.5 blocked shots per game.
  • 5-foot-0 inch freshman Katy Comstock leads the team and is tied for 11th in the conference with 12 blocked shots.
  • Bemidji State is sixth in the WCHA with a power-play percentage of .158 (3-of-19) and fifth on the penalty kill at .833 (10-of-12).
  • Bemidji State is 48-46-15 all-time against the Mavericks but just 23-27-5 when playing on the road.
  • The Mavericks have owned the series over the last 10 games and are 8-2-0 in the last 10 meetings.
  • Sophomore Morgan Smith has been the Beavers' top scorer against the Mavericks totaling five points (3g-2a) in four career games against MSU.
  • Second-year head coach Amber Fryklund is 1-3-0 in her career against Minnesota State.
  • The Beavers are in year two under the leadership of head coach Amber Fryklund after going 6-30-1 during her first season as head coach.
  • Fryklund returns 16 skaters from last season including all four of her leading scorers.
  • She also returns 80-percent of goals scored last season (45-of-56) and her top six goal scorers.
  • However, she lost three of her top point-getters from the blueline from the 2024-25 season.
  • Fryklund returns both netminders in Kaitlin Groess and Eva Filippova who played serious minutes between the pipes.
  • She has brought in 11 newcomers to the green and white including transfers Carmen Bray (St. Cloud State) and Elly Klepinger (Minnesota).
  • Morgan Smith highlights the Beavers' returners after leading the team in points (20) and goals (11) during her freshman season.
  • Junior Hailey Armstrong will captain the Beavers during the 2025-26 season and will be assisted by Smith and senior Raeley Carney.
  • Armstrong leads all returners having scored 19 goals over her career and recording 28 points.
  • She is followed by Smith with 20 points and junior Kate Johnson with 17 (5g-12a).
  • Eight freshmen make their green and white debut this season in Senja Leeper (Minnetonka HS), Lola Macuiba (Shawnigan Lake School), Kasey Senden (Hill-Murray HS), Addie Morris (Benilde-St. Margaret's), Paige Smith (Edmonton Jr. Oilers), Maddie Kaiser (Balmoral Hall Prep), Katy Comstock (Warroad HS) and Ashlyn Hazlett (Minnetonka HS).
