Serratore earns 400th win as Beavers extend win streak in series opener against Falcons

Bemidji State downs Bowling Green 3-2 in series opener Friday night

BEMIDJI, Minn. – Bemidji State University Men's Hockey head coach Tom Serratore earned his 400th career win Friday night as the Beavers extended their win streak to three games after defeating Bowling Green State University 3-2 in Central Collegiate Hockey Association action at Sanford Center.

Serratore became the 41st head coach in NCAA Division I Men's Hockey history reach the 400 wins mark and Bemidji State is one of just three programs in Division I with two head coaches with 400 or more wins (R.H. Bob Peters, Tom Serratore) joining Boston College and Denver University.

The win also secured three points in the CCHA standings for the Beavers bumping them up to sixth place as the regular season end draws near.

The Beavers' special teams was a deciding factor as they went 2-for-4 on the power play including senior captain Jackson Jutting scoring the game-winning, power-play goal early in the third period. Jutting, Noah Quinn and Kirklan Irey all scored for the Beavers while Mattas Sholl backstopped the Beavers to victory making 22-of-24 saves to collect his 11th win of the season and 49th of his career.

After a scoreless first period, Quinn opened the scoring 1:52 into the second period with a power-play goal and his fourth of the season after receiving a nice backdoor pass from junior Reilly Funk.

However, just 2:56 later, Bowling Green's Ben Doran evened the score with his seventh of the season.

The Beavers weren't fazed and just 1:24 later, junior Kirklan Irey scored his 10th goal of the season to put the Beavers back on top.

Just as soon as the Beavers recaptured the lead, the Falcons once again tied the game when Doran scored his second of the game 2:55 after Irey's marker and with 10:53 to play in the second period.

The second period ended with the score still locked at 2-2 but soon after the opening face-off for the third period, Jutting scored his 10th goal of the season 6:13 into the frame and eventually proved to be his third game-winning goal of the season.

With the win the Beavers have now won three consecutive games and are 12-15-4 (9-11-3 CCHA) overall. BSU will go for the coveted CCHA series sweep and second straight sweep tomorrow night for game two. Bemidji State will honor its five seniors of the 2025 class prior to puck drop at 6:07 p.m.
