BEMIDJI, Minn. – After upsetting second-seed Augustana University in the Central Collegiate Hockey Association Mason Cup Quarterfinals, the seventh-seed Bemidji State University Men's Hockey team is ready to play the spoiler again as it travels to Mankato, Minn., for a semifinal matchup against top-seeded No. 16/15 Minnesota State University, Mankato Saturday, March 15.

The Beavers (15-17-5, 10-12-4 CCHA) play in their second consecutive CCHA Mason Cup Semifinal and face the regular-season champion Mavericks (25-8-3, 18-5-3 CCHA) for a single-elimination game Saturday at 7:07 p.m.

Bemidji State Notes
- Bemidji State advanced to its second consecutive CCHA Semifinal round after upsetting Augustana on the road in three games of their best-of-three series in Sioux Falls, S.D.
- After a 3-1 loss in game one against the Vikings, the Beavers rallied to win game two 4-3 and then extended their season with a 3-2 overtime victory Sunday.
- Junior Adam Flammang capped off late-game heroics for the Beavers scoring 4:13 into overtime Sunday after sophomore Noah Quinn scored the equalizing goal with 6:19 remaining in the third to push the game to overtime.
- Senior goaltender backstopped the Beavers to victory in the game with a career postseason high 41 saves, tied for the fourth most saves by a BSU goaltender in the playoffs (DI era) in program history and the most saves by a Beaver goaltender in the playoffs since Michael Bitzer stopped 41 in a triple overtime WCHA Quarterfinal on March 14, 2015.
- Fifth-year senior captain Jackson Jutting led the Beavers recording four points off two goals and two assists while Flammang followed with two goals and an assists.
- Junior defenseman Vince Corcoran tallied three assists in the series and was named the CCHA Defenseman of the Week for the first time this season and second of his career for his performance.
- Sholl posted a .918 save percentage in the series making 89 saves in 184:13 minutes of action between the pipes.
- The CCHA announced is league award winners this week and Jutting was named the CCHA Defensive Forward of the Year for the second straight season.
- Freshman defenseman Isa Parekh also earned CCHA recognition and was named to the CCHA All-Rookie Team.
- Bemidji State earned the seventh seed in the CCHA Mason Cup Playoffs finishing with a 10-12-4 record in conference play and accumulating 36 league points.
- Teams were reseeded following the completion of the first round and the Beavers travel to Mankato for a semifinal matchup against long-time rival and MacNaughton Cup Champions Minnesota State.
- The Mavericks won the program's ninth MacNaughton Cup finishing as the top team in the regular season in the CCHA going 18-5-3 in league play and 25-8-3 overall.
- Minnesota State advanced to the semifinal with a first-round sweep of eighth-seed Lake Superior State University defeating the Lakers 4-1 and 3-2 at Mayo Clinic HSEC.
- The Beavers will need to snap a nine-game unbeaten streak (8-0-1) by the Mavericks if they wish to advance to the CCHA Mason Cup Championship for the second straight season.
- Minnesota State has stayed steadily ranked in both national polls and are ranked 16th in the USA Hockey/The Rink Live and 15th in the USCHO.com top-20 polls heading into Saturday.
- The two teams face each other for the second time in three weeks after ending the regular season against one another on Feb. 28-Mar. 1 in Mankato.
- Bemidji State is the seventh seed in a postseason tournament for the first time in its 26 seasons as a Division I Men's Hockey institution.
- Bemidji State has played better on the road this season with a .500 winning percentage on the road (9-9-3).
- Nine of the team's 15 wins this season have been on the road.
- BSU is 5-2-1 over its last seven road games.
- Bemidji State is averaging 2.95 goals per game (62) when on the road compared to just a 1.94 goals per game average at home.
- Head coach Tom Serratore earned career victory No. 400 on Feb. 21 becoming the 41st head coach in DI Men's Hockey history to reach the milestone.
- He ranks 12th among active coaches in DI Men's Hockey with 403 career victories.
- Bemidji State and Minnesota State have one of the most historic rivalries in college hockey with their rivalry dating all the way back to 1974.
- The two teams have 151 meetings in their histories including eight in postseason play.
- Minnesota State holds a slight advantage in the all-time series with a record of 70-64-17 but the Beavers have fared better in the postseason at 5-3-0.
- The home team has been favored in their rivalry with Minnesota State owning a 41-22-12 record when hosting the Beavers.
- Bemidji State and Minnesota State last met in the playoffs on March 19, 2022 in an infamous CCHA Mason Cup Championship battle in Mankato.
- During the regular season, the Beavers went 1-2-1 against the Mavericks and 0-1-1 when in Mankato.
- Mattias Sholl has played his best hockey against the Mavericks this season and has posted a .944 save percentage and 1.70 goals against average against MSU this season.
- The Beavers have not won in Mankato since Nov. 18, 2023 (0-1-1) but are 2-2-1 in their last five games at Mayo Clinic HSEC.
- Fifth-year senior captain Jackson Jutting has family ties to the Minnesota State Men's Hockey program and plays some of his best hockey when going up against the Mavericks.
- In 12 career games versus MSU, Jutting has potted six goals and nine points to lead the Beavers.
- He is followed by fifth-year senior Eric Martin who has seven points (1g-6a) in 18 career games versus MSU.
- Sholl has posted a 5-7-1 career record versus Minnesota State and has a 2.33 goals against average and .923 save percentage in 745:24 minutes.
- Head coach Tom Serratore is 24-47-6 coaching against the Mavericks.
- Kirklan Irey lead the Beavers and is tied for 13th in the CCHA with a career-high 24 points (11g-13a). He scored his second short-handed goal of the season in game one against the Vikings last weekend.
- Eric Martin and Reilly Funk are close behind with 23 points each.
- Martin has scored a career-high 10 goals this season and reached the 20-point scoring mark for the second consecutive season.
- Junior Reilly Funk has a career-high 23 points (7g-16a) in his first season with the Beavers after transferring from Northern Michigan. In three seasons with the Wildcats, Funk has never recorded more than seven points.
- Funk paces the team with 16 assists, tied for the 12th most in the CCHA.
- Jutting leads the Beavers with 14 goals, a career mark for the Colorado College transfer. He is tied for sixth most in the CCHA.
- Jutting has tied his career mark of 22 points in a season set last year and has found his scoring touch as of late scoring in six of the last eight games.
- Jutting leads the team with a four-game point scoring streak (3g-2a) and has a point in eight of the last nine games (6g-3a).
- Bemidji State has four skaters with 20 or more points and eight with 15 or more.
- Freshman Isa Parekh leads the Beavers' blueline collecting 18 points (3g-15a) in 34 games this season. He is tied for fifth among all CCHA freshmen in points and is tied for sixth among all first-year defensemen across Division I.
- Junior Adam Flammang has scored in back-to-back games and has a point in six of the last eight games (3g-6a).
- Jutting leads the CCHA and is third in the nation with 872 faceoffs taken. He has taken 125 more face-offs than second in the CCHA.
- His 445 faceoffs won is sixth-most in the nation and he boasts a 51.0 percent win rate.
- Jutting took 73 of the team's 159 faceoffs last weekend (.459) and went 39-of-73 for a 53.4 winning percentage.
- Jutting has taken 40.1 percent of the team's face-offs this season (872-of-2,177) and has 407 more than the next Beaver (Jere Vaisanen - 465).
- Jutting also leads the Beavers with seven power-play goals, the second most in the CCHA and tied for 16th in the nation.
- The Beavers' power play has been red-hot as of late scoring a power-play goal in seven of the last nine games going 10-of-31 (.323) during that span.
- The Beavers' power play is tied for second in the CCHA and tied for 11th in the nation with a power-play percentage of .248 (25-of-101) despite the third fewest power-play opportunities in the league.
- Bemidji State's penalty kill is sixth in the league with a penalty-kill percentage of .772 (78-of-101).
- The penalty-kill is coming off a perfect penalty kill in their series against the Vikings going 12-for-12 including a perfect 5-for-5 in the decisive game three.
- Bemidji State has successfully killed-off its last 13 opponent power plays dating back to March 1.
- BSU has been called for a CCHA low 115 penalties this season and their 101 opponent power plays is the 15th fewest in Division I.
- Senior defenseman Will Magnuson leads the CCHA with 82 blocked shots despite missing three games due to injury. He has the second most blocks in Division Men's Hockey.
- Bemidji State is second in the CCHA and 11th in Division I with 515 blocked shots.
- Senior goaltender Mattias Sholl has started 36 of the team's 37 games between the pipes and has played in 93.9-percent of the team's minutes.
- Sholl is 14-16-5 on the season with a 2.80 goals against average and .898 save percentage but has posted a .921 save percentage and 2.59 goals against average of the last five games.
- He is two games shy of tying Michael Bitzer (2016-17) for most games started in net (39) in a single season at BSU, 232:05 for most minutes in a season, and 42 saves away from breaking Bitzer's program record (DI) of 912 saves in a season.
- Sholl is climbing Bemidji State's career goaltending record book and in the Beavers DI era, he is second with 52 career wins and third with 2,756 career saves.
- Sholl ranks fifth among active goaltenders in the NCAA in career saves (2,756).
- He is sixth among BSU's DI goaltenders with a career GAA of 2.58 and seventh with a career save percentage of .904.
- Fifth-year senior Eric Martin has 88 career points during his time with the Beavers. He is the 21st Beaver in their DI era to surpass 80 career points.
- Martin is tied for 16th on BSU's DI career scoring list with 88 career points and his 61 assists are the 10th most in BSU's DI era.
- He is two points shy of reaching 90 career points and would be the 15th skater in the Beavers DI era to reach the milestone.
- Martin has played in 164 career games for the Beavers, third most in program history and is five shy of tying second place Kyle Looft (2019-24).
- Jutting has skated in 151 collegiate games including 97 for the Beavers after playing in 54 at Colorado College. He has 56 points (28g-28a) during his time with the Beavers and his seven career game-winning goals are the ninth most in program history.
- Head coach Tom Serratore is 403-377-104 in his 24 seasons as head coach of the Beavers and boasts a .515 career winning percentage. He is the 10th most tenured coach among active coaches in Division I Men's Hockey.
- Since taking over the Bemidji State Men's Hockey program in 2001, Serratore's teams have achieved eight regular-season conference championships, three CHA tournament titles, five NCAA Tournament appearances, one NCAA Frozen Four appearance (2009) and he is an eight-time conference Coach of the Year including most recently in 2024.
- Jackson Jutting was voted the team's captain by his peers during the summer and will dawn the "C" while Martin, Austin Jouppi and Jere Vaisanen will each serve as alternates.
- The Beavers boast their experience this season and have three graduates, five seniors, and seven juniors on the squad.
- The Beavers were picked to finish second in the CCHA Preseason Coaches' Poll while senior goaltender Mattias Sholl was the unanimous CCHA Preseason Goaltender of the Year.
- The 2024-25 Beaver roster consists of 27 student-athletes with three graduates, five seniors, seven juniors, five sophomores and seven freshmen.
- The team consists of 8 Minnesotans, 24 from North America including nine Canadians and three from Europe.
- By average, the Beavers are one of the smallest in Division I. They are tied for third in DI for the smallest by height averaging 5'11.6" and the smallest by weight averaging 178.9 pounds.Â
